My dear boy he likes to spend
The money in his pocket
He'll want to buy Mom something
A watch or golden locket

I thought of when I was young
Gifts were far and few between
Holidays were sad for me
Those times were often lean

Where is the loving touch
In a necklace made of gold
But how can you explain this
To a boy just eight years old

So when you are eight years old
Are you wiser if you're poor
When all the money's spent
At the corner thrifty store?

So you save a little boy
Go and fill your piggy bank
You can make funny faces
You'll later have me to thank

Dandelions go well with
Mom's soft and flowing hair
Pick a bunch run to her
And place them way up there

Come and sit with me my boy
We'll write Mom a thank you note
Our hands will hurt from writing
But she'll love what all we wrote

You've put away your money
I see that with a smile
What's that you say my boy?
You've been planning all the while?

Yes boy let's go see your room
All the paper and the mess
No I'm not mad my sweet boy
I'm so proud I must confess

You have made a great collage
Don't cry you've spent from pocket
Dad should not have judged you boy
For I got her golden locket

Nice to see a wife mentioned... as I do know our own mother's mean so much. I say two thumbs up my friend.

If I could paint a portrait, of this life in which I've led, and somehow sketch a story, of the visions in my head, I'd start out with a canvas, stretched tightly in a frame, and in the bottom corner, I'd leave room to sign my name. (Michelle A. Bartley)

Walt, simply touching and beautiful! Home gifts are the best don't ya know? LOL
All mine have been home made I think! I love em all!  My son gave me one today that made me cry. It was so touching.

You're a good Daddy Walt!
