All my life I’ve tried to stand
Upon an ever changing ground
Learning, losing, moving on
Abandoning all I had found

Assurance of uncertainty
The only truth of my existence
Knowing that I really don’t
The only thought with some consistence

I fear that once my feet are planted
I’ll be so far from where I started
You will be beyond my reach
And I will be left broken hearted

Your poem raised an interesting question. How far can we progress without lossing the core of ourselves/our identity. Yet identities are always evolving, changing though I believe that we are all some what rooted. There is only so far we can evolve. I could spend all night thinking about this but I won't bore you. Great poem.

Very thought-provoking Kevin ... and inspiring, for if you're looking to the future and where you may someday be standing, it will be a journey of memories that you will be able to look back upon, and see from whence you came.  I enjoyed your poem a great deal ... got me thinking too ...

Best wishes,
/Kit

Kevin~
Hi, cutie pie.
Now here we go with a ponder ...

My school motto was ...

'Forward ever ... backward never
within ourselves our future lies.'

That's pretty classical when you're a teen and hopefully have far to go ...
but once you reach a certain plateau in life,
I think you always need to look back to where you've been to understand how you got to where you are, so you can envision where you want to go.

How we are perceived is left as footprints on the path of where we've been.
Who we 'are' from day to day is the result of where we've been.  Where we're 'going' is only measured after we get there.

Thank you, my friend for the think tank.
Enjoyed the immersion.
Love ya'

I'm always so pleased to see your byline when I come to Passions, Kevin, because I know that I am in for a little treasure.

Your writing here is superb, my friend, and I must agree wholeheartedly with our Marge...it is all in the matter of looking both back "and" beyond...learning from our past and allowing that knowledge to decide who we are now and who we want to and will be in the future. Your theme of change being ever~constant is wonderfully displayed with this piece.
