Dancing light, which fills my night, Give my fantasies flight Burning wick, burning bright Fill my eyes and give me sight. By candle's light I seek the night No sound of footsteps given flight No creaks, nor moans, nor whispered words The candle's burning solely heard. A deadly quiet fills the room A lonely heart sealed in the gloom The darkness closing round the flame, I and the candle much the same. Quiet now, no shrieks or talk Break through the stillness' gentle lock. No restless spirits in the gloom The room is quiet, like a womb. No hideous laughter, haunting disdain No cries of suffering or pain, Nothing, in fact, in the silence thick, Only the burning of the wick. The flame dies slowly, it's light now gone And the angels come with their holy song To take me home, to my rest at last, My life like the candle's light, has passed. Knowlege tempered by wisdom...Wisdom tamed by youth. |

Worry not, though light has passed Through your words your memory lasts When we, as poets, lose this human skin And death has stilled the aching heart within Through rhyme and rhythm the beat quiets not Yes gone we'll be, but not forgot Sorry, I found this inspiring...and these days I take any inspiration I can get ![]() ![]() |

Oh wow Robert, you don't write "dark" very often, but man when you do, you do! This thing was eerie in a "closure" sort of way. Fabulous idea with the candle and all. Brravo big bro! Hey, even that rhymed! ![]() |

Lovely metaphorical piece of writing, RS...you bring your reader into "your" poetic light with the sharing of these images and emotions. Beautiful illumination, to my way of thinking... ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Lovely poem! But I've got a match, I'll strike it against my computer and your flame will burn again! ![]() |

This is beautiful, Rob, in a sort of sad melancholy way. Very well done! Denise |

This left me feeling quite melancholy, yet it is so beautifully written. The symbolism, likening the candle's flame to our own short and fleeting lifespan, was wonderful. *S* |
