Story of an Hour It was 3am when the snow would fall. So cold, your heart could freeze in your chest. It was 3am when you made that call. You said you could sleep, but you couldn’t rest. It’s 3am and you lost your soul. You cried it up through your eyes. It’s 3am and the world, as a whole, doesn’t know or care that your alive. It’s 3am and he’s too drunk to know the crime. He might be passed out all day. It’s 3am, but there’s no black eye this time… It’s getting worse, y’know you can’t stay. It’s 3am and you pray for one good dream. But the powers that be never got the call. It’s 3am; you stumble and scream. Please stop saying it’s all your fault. It’s 3am; a dreamless sleep. A frantic ring brought me back. It’s 3am; a shepherdless sheep Cried because her wool was black. It’s 3am and the world’s in black and white. The sky hasn’t a single star. It’s 3am; your spirit’s too torn to fight. All your make-up can’t hide that scar. It’s 3am; there’s a shimmer on your wrist. In your ear; my fearful cries. It’s 3am and your daughter was kissed. She never heard those last good-byes. It’s 3am and I’m screaming fear and pain. I’ve never felt so god damn helpless. It’s 3am and you’re breaking the chain. Over the phone, it sounds like knife and flesh. It’s 3am; when life begins. It’s 3am; when the party ends. It’s 3am; when angels come in. It’s 3am; there’s quiet again. It’s 3am, and this time of day silence never seemed so loud. It’s 3am, and this time of day screams are nothing to fuss about. It’s 3am; I mourned and cried. I cradled the phone as if it were you. It was 3am when you learned to fly. Maybe this was the only rest for you. The time right now, is 3am. Dead to the entire world. It’s 3am, and as far as it’s concerned, You were just another girl. We all got somethin' we need to atone for. |

I can relate to this piece. I have been in a similar situation myself but I was strong enough to leave. Too many people do see a tragedy like this as just another girl but we must change that. We must be the strength of those that have none, we must be the voice of those who can not speak, we MUST be the eyes for those who refuse to see. We MUST stop the violence. Thankyou for posting this. ![]() |

god, i heard the pain screaming from this one so loudly that by the end, i was almost in tears. This was just too good to let it slip off the first page. I liked the line, "...a shepherdless sheep cried because her wool was black."....a different spin on the "black sheep" expression. Great job. ![]() Bobbycat =^..^= ~~ And it harm none, do what ye will.~~ |

Ethan, Great writing!! I applaud you for having the courage to write about this. I think it needs to be said to make people more aware of what is going on in the world. Stuff like this happens all the time....people are just not aware. Nice job!!! Looking forward to more!! ![]() Friends are friend forever if the Lord's the Lord of them and a friend will not say never cause the welcome will not end. --Michael W. Smith |

This is, by far, one of the most powerful and well written peices I've seen in my experiance here... It's a spell-binding read, and a slap in the face to those who stand ignorant of violence. Thank you. "Presently I've had enough of all your sanity." -James Kavanaugh |

Ethan welcome to Passions, again. This poem is pure pain and tragedy, I hope whom ever this poem is about has called the crisis clinic at 3 am -- that is what it is there for. And, if people are from other countries and don't have one, it is about time to start one ---- This abuse issue is strong and hurts such a painful hurt -- Yet, the beginning of escape is to pack up - take the kids and get the heck to a shelter that can teach you how to make sure it never happens again. This is a cycle -----that must be stopped. netswan |
