(This is the latest chapter of my ongoing battle with swallows.) A Tale of Determination The swallows have come back and I Thought this time surely I could try To keep their nests from my front door. I tin-foiled all around it and Used my straw broom to reprimand And thought they would come back no more. For just a bit more of insurance I hung an owl up with assurance It's fierceness would give tham a scare. I was as proud as I could be. They hadn't got the best of me. That owl had kept them out of there. But theni I saw them flying by With nesting stuff and wondered why. Had they built somewhere else instead? Just then I glanced up at my owl. His face was set in fiercer scowl. They'd placed their nest upon his head. By Joyce 06/01/06 [This message has been edited by Joyce Johnson (06-01-2006 03:59 PM).] |

Joyce, Funny and so True. Many of my neighbors have those owls also and I do think that the sparrows or in our case pigeons get used to them after the owls don't move for awhile... Maybe... but I'm not for certain. Anyway, I could certainly picture what you wrote in your poem happening. God bless. -Bob |

Dear Joyce: I had to laugh.......although I know it's not so funny.......as we battle a pair of swallows every year who like the inside of our carport. Right above one of the cars, so I guess you know what happens! Love Betty Lou |

Yes they are a real problem but are usually more determined and smarter than I. I am leaving Wednesday for a Convention and won't be back until Saturday, so they will probably completely take over with my absence. Love, Joyce |
