Take the Time

This week between the madness of merry Chrismas
And the happy hailing of a brand-new year,
May you have the time to sit a bit by firelight
And to ponder on the things you hold most dear.

Take the time to tell some special folks you love them
And to thank them for just being in your life;
And don't forget the one who walks beside you,
Your ever-loving husband or your wife.

For this short week, life takes a little breather,
Between the hectic and a chance to start anew;
Sweet moments meant to draw you even closer
To those dear ones who mean the most to you.

Let go of small annoyances and angers
That have kept you from admitting how you feel.
For life goes on and chances leave forever,
Too late then your true devotion to reveal.

The new year is about to claim attention;
Open your heart before this very day is done.
Ere the new year and its worries can assail you,
Reach out and gather in each beloved one.
