Alpenglow

The alpenglow of sunset
Puts on its daily show
With changing of the colors
In undulating flow.

I watch in fascination
For each succeeding hue
And wonder if the Angels
Are gazing at it too.

At sunset and at daybreak
God opens Heaven's door
And lets some of its glory spill
Upon the Earth once more.

No gifted mortal painter can
Approach the beauty of
The picture painted for us
By His own hand with love.

Dear Joyce:  Beautiful poem!  I do love the sunsets when we can see them. Unfortunately we are heavily treed and hilled to the west, so we have to go some place else to enjoy them.

vivid painting of nature at her best

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Dear Joyce

This poem of yours is wonderful!

Could you please tell me what 'alpenglow' means.  I cannot find it in my dictionary.

Love Verbena xo

Dr. Dictionary who visits me by email says that it is the name for the glow that suffuses the sky at sunset and sunrise.  Thanks for reading from across the world.  Love,  Joyce

Aww Joyce,

This is so beautiful, declaring it as lovely would be an understatement
I honest to goodness love it!
