This is Prophecy
Complete this time

hope you enjoy it
It is Very long
Probably five minutes reading

Prophecy

The country was in turmoil, only chaos to be seen
We went up to the castle, invited by the king
Surrounded by his minions, he just looked tired and old
So much for his Knights, they didn’t look too bold

The Jesters and Dwarves were trying to amuse
But for all their efforts, they only got abuse
Princess royal, has always been a prissy little bitch
Now screaming like a Harpy, demanding her last wish

The silly little fool, too spoilt to understand
Had stolen a Dragon egg, now Chaos stalked the land
For this was not a Dragon egg, like others she had seen
The egg itself, had been laid, by the Dragon Queen

Only once in several lifetimes, will the Dragon Queen give birth
Now her Rage was evident, there was no peace on Earth
A Dragon in a normal mood is fearsome to the eye
Now endless flights of Dragon wings, shimmered in the sky

Now man once more had called on us, to come and lend a hand
Hoping the Prince of Thieves, can bring peace to his land
It may seem a simple thing, return a Dragons Egg
Those before us tried it….. Before us all were dead

The prince, he was of human kind, very clear to me
I am slightly different… Later on you’ll see
Both of us were in disguise, up to the castle gate
Now we stood before the throne… prayed we’re not too late

For Dragon eggs are sentient…. Need their mother near
All that I could feel from it, was hopelessness and fear
I knew it felt safest, in the Princesses arms
Somehow it realised, she did not mean it harm

Still the Princess royal, raged about her rights
She could send this world, into endless night
If you cared to see it, from her point of view
She had read the prophecy. Tried to make it true

Prophecies are dangerous things… Read in many ways
No-one truly knows the outcome, no matter what they say
The pointed ears of the Prince, were twitching as I rose
“The Prince and I, Dragon egg… Princess also goes”

A sob shattered the silence, flung down by these words
The King had read the prophecy, so he had observed
“A Prince, Princess royal, a Beast and Dragon Egg
Would not return together… Some perhaps were dead”

The Prophecy was bound, by things beyond his ken
Fore Doomed that this would happen.. only question when

Wizard in the background, then shouted out with glee
“That is an Elfin Prince. No Human prince is he
Forget that Prophecy my King. It’s bound to human kind
No other can fulfil it… You can relax your mind”

So it came to pass, that we three as a band
Left there with the Dragon egg, to cross a troubled land
No knights were there as escort. Just we three alone
Darkness ruled our mission, into the Dragons home

The Prince of course was gallant… Required in such a man
Princess still a surly bitch, trailed our tiny band
Too many years of luxury, had left her soft and weak
Demanded she be carried, even o’er the smallest creek

I unfortunately, was forced to walk beside
As protection for the egg…. Maybe more besides
In troubled days and nights, we travelled cross the plain
At last we were in sight, of the mountain range

The Princess royal was changing… More likeable each day
For trouble binds together, , can be no other way
Faerie camp ahead, ablaze with spectral lights
Princess stands in awe, swooning with delight

Prince is not so happy. He knows the danger there
For if you fall asleep, you’ll sleep 1000 years
But we were exhausted, and so we staggered in
A welcome and a party, like none we’d ever seen

A flitterball of crimson light, dancing through the air
Spectacles and miracles, way beyond compare
Faerie King was absent. Perhaps that’s just as well
Ransom is his closest friend and you can never tell

Of course, the Faeries knew me. That would count for much
We would now be safe in here. Me they would not touch
Prince and Princess royal, danced amongst the trees
Faerie music following. Gentle as the breeze

I motioned them to sleep. Told they they’d be safe
My kind needs not sleep. That we can forsake
So they slept as revelry, whispered through the night
The egg and I watched over them, until Dawns grey light

Many were the wonders, which happened in-between
Yet as always with the Faeries, some are best unseen
Silly little mortals, who think they rule this land
Would gaze on them in wonder, but never understand

It was a shame I had to watch. Could not play along
Faeries always like to tease… Of course they play that song
The song ignited moonbeams, dryads danced in time
Fireflies and Wherry lights, following in line

With the dawn the music died. Faeries disappeared
Lethargy crept upon me. Seems my time was near
Time to find the Dragon Queen, give her back her young
Before I went into my change and we were all undone

We could not just approach her cave. She would not understand
This was not a friendly time for Dragonkind and man
The Labyrinth, with perils five, was just before us now
I must see my charges through. See them through somehow

A shrieking demon from beyond was first to test our way
The prince now showed his mettle. True hero in this fray
Living Dark, Insidious, tried to drag us in
Princess with her poise and charm, ensured it could not win

The final three the usual ones. Ones that live on fear
Depression Sloth and Apathy, loitered in the air
Of course they were my victims, I merely ate them all
Escorted my companions, into the final hall

Vamphyr Lord glared at us, Stung by our success
But when he looked into my soul, raged in helplessness
Vamphyr Lords though decadent, know when they are beat
Bowed to Prince and Princess…Gracious in defeat

Hidden memories in our minds, there to lead us on
Through the caves of mist and woe, seeking Dragon song
Dragon egg was active now, ever changing hues
Once translucent opal, then a vivid blue

I was growing weaker; the Change was now on me
We Must be there before the Change, or share the infamy
So we entered Dragon Cave, by the hidden ways
Shaded by my mystery, from the Dragons gaze

Now all of you have seen, a Dragon in the sky
How many living now have looked, into a Dragons eye
I never could explain it. Perhaps I never can
Yet I can understand them, much easier than man

Imagine you are in a cave, with weakly glowing light
You see an odd shaped rock, over to your right
As you look, a movement, a shimmer in the air
A shifting of a living rock. The Dragon now appears

Where all was grey like rock before, colours fill the night
Copper, Bronze, Ruby Red, Purple, flash of White
The Flexing of the Dragon, reflected in his scales
A rainbow mirror flickering, with all that this entails

Then the head, turns to you, freezes with its gaze
Eyes once shuttered, now are wide. All is bright as day
Description now defeats me. It’s always been the same
Beauty, Arrogance, Delight. How could I explain

We were in the cave, of the Dragon Queen at last
Through careful use of Mystery, avoided Dragon blast
The egg knew it was close to home. Quivered as we strode
Colours flashing through the shell, almost that it glowed

Prince and Princess royal, Determined to the end
Followed in my mystery, around the final bend
There she was before us. A Raging Dragon Queen
Seeking blood atonement, from those as yet unseen

My Change was now upon me. My end was coming soon
Mystery was waning, as we approached our doom
The Queen, despite her Rage, was clearly first to see
She Screamed “How could you Fools fulfil the Prophecy”

“This Prophecy is written, in the Dragons egg
One of you must Die. It’s All upon your head
Two Humans and a Beast. But one cannot survive
My egg has been returned. Who is it will die?”

At her words the Prince of Thieves, lost his Elfin ways
Princess royal looked at him, wonder in her gaze
Egg was placed into, mothers loving claws
There it simply cracked apart, without a single pause

I, for once as dignified, as any Troll can be
Opened my mind to humankind, so they could plainly see
The Dragonlet was motionless, curled inside the shell
If Dragon look could kill. We would be in Hell

My time of Change and Rearrange was coming to an end
Phophecy would be fulfilled. Troll would soon be dead
As I crumpled silently, to lie upon the ground
My Spirit, now in Dragonlet. Sat and looked around

Prophecy 2

A Dragonlet is helpless. Fragile as most young
Not even yet a shadow, of what it will become
Skinny little body, without a hint of scales
Eyes sharp, full of life, alone they seem the same

Insistent still, but desperate, it tries to make its path
As it climbs the Queens bare arms, each step could be its last
Instinctive as a homing bird, it knows it must climb high
If it cannot do it. Then Dragonlet must die

For the only sustenance, near for it to eat
Is gathered in the tears, on his mothers cheek
Dragon Queen in honour, cannot bend her head
Dragonlet must show his strength. Or Dragonlet is dead

Looking weaker every moment, he seeks a better grip
Instants pass like days. Surely he must slip
A tiny Dragon arm, reaches shoulder height
Onward ever upward. Now the tears in sight

Queen is agitated, yet cooing like a Dove
Encouraging the Dragonlet. Sending out pure love
All are gathered round, to watch the final climb
Will he ever get there? Will he be in time?

Dragonlets need moisture, and from their mothers tears
They gain somehow the knowledge, of all of their forebears
This one was sorely weary, as he made his way
For the Dragon Queen was huge, Largest of her day

Finally when all seemed lost, a tear began to fall
In desperation Dragonlet scrambled for a hold
Watched him slip, then attempt, what none had seen before
Dragonlet spread useless wings, gave a childish roar

Leaping from the shoulder, up to the mighty head
Any miscalculation,,,,,, Dragonlet was dead
A puny little arm, clutched his mothers cheek
A tiny tongue now flickering, Finding what it seeked

Satiated. Strength returning. Curled up on her nose
Dragonlet, Exhausted, snuggled in repose
Look from the now glowing Queen, wondrous to behold
A story in the making, if ever it is told

Princess and the Prince of Thieves, looked to their Troll friend
Not knowing the beginnings, could only see the end
Fact their friend was dead, all they could see
Forgetting that “One Must Die” foretold in Prophecy

Trolls are rather ugly, unpleasant to be sure
But he’d been their friend. This was not ignored
So he was interred. The journey home began
No final trace of Elfin Prince. Now there stood a man

As they went to leave the cave, of the Dragon Queen
Something very strange occurred. Something never seen
The Dragonlet was staring, at the Princess walking by
Then using feeble wings, looked her in the eye

Hovering in front of her, he seemed to nod his head
Flew back to his mother’s brow. Snuggled into bed
Many were the questions, raised by such a sight
Many were the arguments, late into the night

No-one could explain, what had happened there
Dragonlet too young, to comprehend the fear
For this could be a sign, nobody willed to see
First sign of the dreaded, second prophecy

Since Gilgamesh and Chuchalain, and other heroes lived
The readers of the Prophecy, one and all had grieved
For it spoke of Times of Change, Friendships torn apart
Riders of the God of War, Ever broken hearts

Hidden in the mists of time, no-one knew just when
Chaos Rules. Death will Smile. Hatred lives again
How a tiny Dragonlet, unnamed could be involved
Just another query. A Question to be solved

The Gods themselves, in recompense, for what could happen now
Offered Dragonkind and man, a type of out, somehow
It could be a day, a week, a year,,, or hundreds more
Before the truth would surface, and they knew the score

This tale becomes diverse now, sometimes it will stray
To half heard myth, legend dark, but will return some day
To those at the centre, the ones it’s clear to see
Willing, and Unwilling, are part of Prophecy

The Prince of Thieves, as thieves do, lived up to his part
Returning to the Castle, stole Princesses heart
Two young people, mad in love, stood before the throne
Told the king of their wish. That they would be as one

King turned to his courtiers. To his Wizard wise
Ignored the Love before him, right before his eyes
Never, would his daughter, marry such as thee
A Princess Royal to marry, a so-called Prince of Thieves
1
Prince, full of righteous anger, lightning in his eyes
“It should not have come this. I should not be despised”
“One day I will return, to take your daughters hand’
“Ignore my words if you’re a Fool. Now I leave your land”

A year or two. Or was it more, passed and nothing changed
King did all his regal things, Princess was deranged
Refused to meet the suitors ,who were pressed on her
Word from near the border, made everything more clear

North and South, somehow by stealth, raiders had appeared
Like no other raiders, so common through the years
Goblin Lords on Raptors fleet, pillaged as they roamed
Trolls had lost their leader. Sought another home

Death. Destruction. Dogs of War. Nothing was the same
Of the peace they once knew, mere memories remained
Army was defeated, more times than we can count
Every time they tried to stand, it turned into a rout

Far off in the Kingdom, they talked about a man
Who found a hidden valley, where he made his stand
Dressed in black, with mask of jet, fought just to survive
Goblin Lords went after him. None of them survived

King was in despair. Kingdom in disarray
Castle was besieged. Could last no more than days
Man in Black addressed the King “This is what I’ll do”
I win the battle for you King. I win your daughter too”

Desperate times, desperate men, demand a desperate plan
So the King agreed, with grim wave of his hand
Fight then raged for many days. No counting of the cost
Man in Black was wounded sore. War was surely lost

Tied secure upon his horse, he led a frenzied charge
Trolls and Goblin Lords defeated. War was won at last
Swaying in the saddle, he went to claim his bride
No-one knows the agony, of his final ride

For near a week he hovered, alive but only just
King had made a promise. Promise keep he must
Princess came to tend him. Looked into his eyes
Love was mirrored in their gaze, much to her surprise

So now you think the story ends. With love and wedding rings
But this was just a fragment. Of the saga that I bring
We could stay here with them. Talk of how they led
Their Kingdom in prosperity, but of this you’ll have read

In a cave so far away, where mountains meet the sky
Dragonlet was growing, Learning how to fly
Different from the other, Dragons in his clan
Strange with stranger talents, than many Dragons have

For all of you know Dragons, you’ve seen them in the sky
Know that in their rage, they’ll fill the air with fire
How they have a wisdom, passed down through the ages
That they shun most mortal men, excepting for our sages

So the time of learning, was borne by Dragonlet
Still he had no name. Had not earned one yet
Scales of colours seldom seen, reflected as he grew
Darker than all known before. Shimmered as he flew

“Twas not the only difference, that he now displayed
Hints of loneliness and loss, also well portrayed
Dragons live forever, or so the legends say
Many years thereafter, there came a fateful day

A call came to the Dragonlet. Unheard by other ears
Voice from the distant past, now filled his eyes with tears
Somewhere in his memories, surviving through his dreams
The voice of a young Princess Royal. Now an aged Queen

So really it was now. Our saga has begun
Dragonlet left the cave. Flew with the setting sun
Leaving at a younger age, than those who went before
Seeking the Unknown, to the Princesses door

“ I’m happy you’ve come to me. Grateful that you came
Once I stole your egg. For that I am ashamed
Soon my life will end. Then will my spirit soar
Forgive me, but I had, to see you just once more”

“Long ago I watched you climb, to drink your mothers tears
That memory has stayed with me, through these many years
I asked you here to seek your help, for those I leave behind
Trouble comes, and they will need, the help of Dragonkind”

They say that as the sun set, Dragon was surely seen
Perhaps that is just myth. Or just someone’s dream
They say that on his back. She went for a ride
Yet know in the morning,,,,, she was dead,, but smiled

Prince of Thieves, Princess Royal, had lived a wondrous life
We will not talk much of it here. Maybe another time
They left behind a Kingdom, which revelled in its peace
Not knowing in their leaving, how soon it all would cease

Dragonlet, returning, sought his mother’s cave
Went to her for answers, not feeling very brave
He had broken custom, to go and visit man
Would he now be ostracised, forbidden to his clan

It is only rumour. What happened when they met
But I shall tell the rumour. There are no answers yet
Say that when the Queen cooled down, Dragonlet was named
Now,,, and so Forever, he was the Dragon Twain

Wizards in their ivory towers, looked down in despair
Could only see the problem. No answer anywhere
The prophecy fulfilling now. Long planted was the seed
All the Portents showed, this was a time of need

“Human Queen will go, to Dragonkind in need
In her youth, she saw the truth, lonely heart now bleeds”

“Not a Single Dragon, But One who’s really Two
In a time of Direst need, No other one will do”

“When Darkness Screams, then all must Fall
The nights are full of Demons calls”

“Humankind, and others too
Must resist, or All is through”

Twain had left the Cave. Toured the countryside
Knew him by his Shimmer, High up in the sky
They say, at times he disappeared, gone from viewers sight
Then they heard the Whisper,,, his wings on balmy nights

But times were good, who really cared, that a Dragon roamed
Tireless in his vigilance. Above these human homes
Winter’s near upon us. Days were growing drear
Then the first grim warning. A Tickling of Fear

In the East, where Sun should rise, Dawning never came
Instead of bright blue skies. Some kind of misty Grey
On the second morning, the Grey was Darker still
A different type of darkness, no light could ever fill

Of course you know exactly, who they tried to blame
Blamed it all on Dragonkind. Especially Dragon Twain
Wizards and the Lords, demanded Dragon heads
So the Hunt began, to make the Dragons Dead

One thing Dragons do despise, is sheer stupidity
Most of them just up and left. Left the fair country
Darkness slowly deepened. Screams were heard at night
Demons called and through it all, the end was now in sight

Everybody gathered, within the castle walls
In darkest night, surrounded by, Eerie Demon calls
With Evil all around them. Pressing on all sides
Though Knowing it was useless, they prepared to fight

There is no real defence, against the Demon Kin
They are stuff of Nightmares, mankind could not win
Wizards, in their wisdom, tried to cast their spells
Demons caught them at it, threw them into Hell

An old and crippled man, finally made them see
They had all forgotten, the Second Prophecy
As Demons gathered for the kill, a Plea was sent on high
A Plea seemly ignored, by the Dragon flying by

On the final morning, no matter what the cost
They prepared to meet their doom. Battle surely lost
Voice that was not Twains, echoed in the hall
“Mankind needs assistance. I have brought it all

No matter what you’ve done to us, We are here for you
Though it’s against my Judgement, We will see you through”

Goblins quick and Vampire Lords, enemies of Man
Marshalling to either side, Faeries in the Van
Dwarves and Trolls, in full control, attacked the other side
Elvin lance, from Deer that Pranced, tore the Demons wide

Flight of Dragons from beyond, ripped into the Dark
Birds pecking where they could. Even tiny Larks
Vampire Lords drew Demon blood, spat it to the ground
Faerie King Invincible,Goblins all around

Dwarven Hammers led this lot, into the final fray
Supported by All animals, on this stupendous day
As the Demons died, Darkness faded too
Into lighter skies, Sun came shining through

Vampire Lords, Much depleted, fled the rising Sun
Trolls and Goblins, wandered off, Going one by one
Elves and Faeries, joined together, gathered fallen friends
Animals now spread apart, and here their story ends

Last few Demons had escaped. Battle had been won
Twain landed by the Castle. His First job was done
Now there came the second task, hardest one of all
Wandered Disconsolate, down into the Hall

“You all saw the warnings. Very clear to see
Warnings that were given, by the Second Prophecy”

“Look at those who saved you. So called Enemies of Man
Simply look at me, Now a Stranger to my clan”

“We know this world is yours. No more place for us
But we’ll remain in memories. Sprinkled there like Dust”

“Heed these Wasted words. Spread them while you can
Respect the world. Respect the Earth. You’ll be better men”
