The Secret She was silently beside me in the noisy room. I didn’t know until she touched my hand. When I turned, the oval face was inches away, her skin glowing in the dim light. My best friend, she grinned, the liquid in her eyes drawing me in. Again. Lost in the fire of her touch, her perfume kissed me like an old friend. Sliding her soft round arms around my neck, searching my eyes, she wished me happy birthday. Her warm lips covered mine for a moment, in a brief, sweet kiss. She chatted for a while, then was gone. My lips burned from her touch. The taste of her mouth was food for the gods. When all had gone, and the silence closed in on me, I wept. Silent tears in the dark of the empty room. Oh, my love. If you only knew how you stir my heart. I have loved you for so long. How I have dreamed of your sweetness in the night. Your warmth close to mine. The sweet scent of your hair on my chest. Your breath invading my pores, infusing me with your vibrance. This torture that I bear, I bear in the secret places of my soul. You will never know, my love, the one who loves you best. The friend you see will never be the lover you seek. It is written in your eyes, my love. This sentence of my lonely death. I will worship you from afar. As I always have. As I always will. Until the final breath escapes, and I am finally at peace. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |
