Severely wounded by unspeakable evil,
my homeland runs red with the blood
of my family, my neighbors, my friends.

It is a time for mourning and for grief,
a time to search our souls for compassion,
to extend our hands and our hearts to others.

A time to close ranks, to stand and be counted,
to make whatever sacrifice necessary to insure
the safety of our children and grandchildren.

To protect this free and open society we call home,
by whatever means necessary, and with God’s help,
overcome the despicable evil that threatens the world.

On September 11, 2001, I joined with my fellows,
took up the sword of freedom and held it high.
May God bless America.
