Is there anything more splendid Than a garden in the fall? When your work is almost ended And it's time to reap it all? The great bounty's beyond endless; All you need and so much more. It is offered with such largesse, Some to eat and much to store. The old pear tree is so laded, 'Twill be hard to pick it all. Is there anything so lovely As a pear tree in the fall? The apple tree won't be outdone; She's Madam Beneficence. The plum and nut trees firmly vie For first in munificence. Oh, a garden in the springtime Is a place of hope and cheer. But a garden isn't perfect Until fall, at last, is here. I remember Daddy bringing All the produce, with a grin, And my mama bravely canning The profusion he brought in. The cellar is overloaded And the bright jars line the wall. There's nothing so satisfying As the harvest in the fall. by Joyce 9/10/01 |

Joyce: I love this one. Reminds me of all the years we canned as fast as things came ripe until there wasn't space left on the pantry shelves. I still can, but not in such quantity and now I get most of my veggies and fruit from a produce stand. It still tastes good all winter long, however. Betty Lou Hebert |

Ohh..yes..Fall is in the air around here too, and for some reason I am welcoming it this year. I have similar memories like the ones you describe, but in my case they are associated with my Grandparents. ![]() *Jenn* Don't gain my affections then cover my eyes.
