Mellowing September sun casts lighter shadow As summer dreams cool beneath the balding trees And ripened fruits bow the branches in encore Sweet cool winds blow cheerily like minted breath, swaying long trampled blades of abandoned grass. Chasing confused and tired bees and wasps Whipping and tossing earth-litter, granting wings. Blue moments of sky vie with silver tinged clouds, fighting to dominate the space left by the sun. Earth matures in vibrant color under the drying breeze. Golden and deepening russet shyly blushes her surface. After-sun glow like a bronzed tan adorns the forests. Heavy notes of almost forgotten foreign raindrops drum, pounding and pattering down valleys and across dales. Drenching rain parches land in a wash of floating leaves, that find their way to swollen rivers and out to sea. September soil prepares to part with it’s final harvest And make way for winters crusty cover of cleansing frost. |

Even prettier than the old 1938 standard of the same name. Wonderful work. "Poets are all who love, who feel great truths, and tell them; and the truth of truths is love." --Philip James Bailey |
