My Cowboy

I am a simple country girl,
And married to my own cowboy.
He likes to sweep me off my feet
And shout "Yee Ha". He is my joy.
His grammar's not all it should be,
He says, "You ain't seen nothing yet."
But when I brag about my man,
My friends are jealous you can bet.
He often brings me in a rose,
Picked from my own small garden patch.
He bows and gives it with such dash,
You'd get the giggles just to watch.
And then he brings out his guitar,
Serenading with his cowboy songs.
I listen to the words he sings
And know just where his heart belongs.

We buried him with his big hat
The one he'd sweep so gallantly
And with my brother there close by,
He's waiting for me patiently.

I like the simplicity in your poem. That's important I think.

As sad as it may be, i think it is important to write about people we have lost, for then they can truly live on. Your Cowboy lives on in your heart Joyce, beautifully written.

*hugs Joyce*

Very simply beautiful.  When next I hear the coyotes singing late at night, I'll be sure to say a quick prayer for your cowboy and you.
