A Sad Goodbye |

A Sad Goodbye We've led a simple kind of life, Quite settled in our ways; Just you and I, the world shut out, We've spent these quiet days. My dear old friend you've disappeared Without a single sign. I wonder if you were frightened Or was your death benign? Nothing less than unyielding death Could keep you from my door. I know your ways as well as mine. You will be home no more. I searched in all your favorite haunts When you ignored my call, Knowing it was useless, that you Had gone beyond recall. I had promised I'd outlive you. You'd always have my care. We would neither one be lonely, The other always there. I've locked and covered up the door To keep the varmints out. They will try to over run me Without my friend about. The others have their little place Somewhere out in the yard. That I can't even bury you Is very, very hard. So I will dig a spot for you, The same as all the rest. A place to remember Blackie, The one I loved the best. Perhaps I'll leave your feed bowl there Or the ball you liked to bat. The hole in my heart unfillable, My dear old faithful cat. By Joyce 5/28/03 |

Joyce, I really understand this one. I have a solid black cat that roams a lot. Every time he goes off on one of his journey's I think he's never coming back again. I don't know where he goes to. I go around looking for him and never find him. Then, out of the blue, he'll come home. A good poem. Hugs Ethel |

My old friend was not a roamer. He was the scardiest of scardy cats and never left the perimiter of the house. I think a coyote has ventured in after him and it is so sad. Love, Joyce |

Dear Joyce: I feel so sad for you. We parted with our cat of 23 years recently, Cutie. It was so hard, but at least we know what happened to her and she is buried here on our property. It's not knowing that is so heartbreaking. Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

I'm sorry Joyce - not easy losing such close friends. In the desert here I have lost too many cats to coyote that as much as I would love to have one I don't feel I can. |

Hi Spirit. Right now I am petless. As soon as I quit leaving home long enough, I am getting a big dog. My shop was broken into and stuff stolen. I think a dog might have barked and sacared them away. Joyce |

Wow. At first I thought this was about a friend you might have lost contact with...then as I read I realized it was a friend, but of the four-pawed variety. Very clever and well written. I'm sorry you lost him. BWA |

Thank you and thanks for finding this. He never came home and I found no sign. I know he didn't leave on his own. I have a big dog now. No coyote can carry her off. Love, Joyce |
