I don't know how I got here
Or how I came to understand
I only wanted to be friends
With this caring witty man.

I heard you when you spoke
warning me to take care
I tried to keep things warm
But lately I became aware.

You dwell so often in my mind
It's your smile, I want to see
I shouldn't be thinking of you
In a way more than just friendly

Oh this is hard to say to you
But I think with all joking apart
You really mean a lot more to me
You are holding a piece of my heart.

I hold back, not finding it easy
The truth is that if you were gone
I couldn't manage the pain I'd feel
So promise me please ....to go on.

You are truly talented and I know this feeling you describe oh so well...and I like the ending, where it seems to me you say 'oh heck with it' and give in to your feelings for the friend.

I agree with everyone here. I know the feeling all to well. The ending seemed to be saying "I need you out of my life before I feel pain"

Thank you all so very very much. This one is a poem I found really hard to write as it contained so many mixed feelings. I am glad that you all understood it and felt it. Paul you are so right, it is hard and also it is not something I could bring myself to do. Sometimes it hurts to keep inside such feelings but it is necessary too.
