Stones The rocks thrust up from undereground. Great slabs of stone, that stretch around For many yards a-top a hill. Below, the lake lies blue and still. The climb is steep but worth the view. Bright lichens cover just a few, But most are bare and weathered stone. I often come here all alone To share the quiet and the scene. Small flowers grow from in-between The massive chunks. Their creamy bloom Exudes a faint, but sweet perfume. It seems a luxury to lie Up closer to a summer sky, Where clouds appear, then pass along And nearby, birds burst into song. Where breezes whisper to my ear And squirrels question why I'm here, As chattering, they stare at me And wildly leap from tree to tree. It's here the mountain bares it's bones. A place of solitude and stones! Betty Lou Hebert Published in The Sunflower Dream 1997 [This message has been edited by Trillium (edited 08-28-2001).] |

Thanks for taking me along on your nature hike. I love to hike and smell the clean fresh air, and to get on my hands and knees and look at the tiny magnificent growing things that many people step over (or on!) without so much as a glance. Thanks! Midnitesun, Kacy |

Cerenity: Well, thank you so much for looking for me! I'm glad you found me too. I usually hang out here and at Spiritual Journeys. Haven't a lot of time to spend on site, so I don't get to the other forums very often. I remember your nice work however, from times I have. Betty Lou Hebert |

Betty; I love reading your poems! There is always the surprise in each one and your subjects so varied and wondrous. This is so beautifully descriptive that I feel I'm right there with you. Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |
