The Price of Love

With the millions of others I watch
the pagaentry.
My eyes do not stay on
the flag draped coffin, but
stray to the frail and haunted
woman by it side.

I know only vicariously
the honor, the fame and pride
that has been hers, but
I share intimately the sorrow,
the tears and
the bone deep weariness.

I want to shout at the
unseeing eyes around her.
Enough! Enough!
Leave her be.Let her go
home to her solitariness
and to her rest.

Ten years of caring,
never letting go.
Alert to his every need
and anticipating the next.
Yes, that I know
and the weariness, the awful
never ending weariness.

Joyce, yes, what a price -- but you know, I don't think she would have had it any other way....now that's love, isn't it.  I watched her tonight, and I broke down with her when they handed her the flag.  She is so frail and my heart goes out to her, and it makes me angry, too, that every intimate move she made was so mauled over by the press.  A good poem, Joyce, a good poem.

Dear Joyce

A heartfelt poem in tribute to Nancy Reagan.

I watched Ronald Reagan's State Funeral today and it was very touching.  I felt Nancy Reagan's sorrow.  Nothing is private when you are under public scrutiny.

Yes, a nicely written plea. Hopefully, she can now, rest.

Thanks, Melton

Dear Joyce,

A tender tribute to Nancy! My eyes filled with tears as I watched her at the funeral. It's hard to lose someone you love.

You know I was a teen during the Reagan years.  He was the first president I ever voted for.  I never paid much attention to the world around me at the time.  I was too busy taking care of babies...lol  But I'm older now and more..much more aware of the world around me and what's going on.  The love one could see in the face of Mrs. Reagan was inspiring.  It was obvious to anyone with a heart that she totally adored her husband with all her heart.
Very Very nice Joyce.  I liked it tremendously.
