Maid of Honor

I'm getting dressed, I'm going to a wedding,
though once again the bride will not be me.
I'll look my best as happy guest;
not showing
the breaking heart, that I'll not let them see.

No one will wear a brighter smile than I.
I'll kiss the bride and whisper something witty.
She'll flash a smile and all the while
not knowing
I'm keeping grief and pain inside of me.

There was a time when joy was my companion;
when love was mine and happiness assured.
That was before my sweetheart loved
another,
leaving me a shattered heart that can't be cured.

I'll hold her train and smile as if I mean it,
lift up my head, congratulate the groom.
I'll dance with his best man, the bride's
young brother,
catch her bouquet and then flee from the room.

This is a neat poem, Joyce. It makes me wonder just how many people have been caught in situations like that.  Sometimes our eye tends to be on the joyful expressions and not the broken hearts. This is a great message.

A very candid expression of how devastating heart-break can be. Grover.

I never really thought about how someone might feel if their world is falling apart while someone else's is beginning.
As ususal your poetry causes me to think.
How are you these days?

(big angel hugs) Oh Joyce, I too can get overemotional at events like that, dearest friend, I believe it is natural and I only hope while you cheer on their happiness you find joy of your own you desire, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Joyce, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
