Beauty is a red, red rose,
newly sprung in June,
to the world it boastly shows,
its deep crimson maroon.

It basks in the light of sun,
competing for her rays,
striving to not be outdone-
to feel the warming gaze.

From sun's heated passion,
to Heaven's cleansing tear,
all nurse the deadly sin,
that haunts thee through the year.

Tho' the rose may be beautiful,
to elements she is exposed,
prime hath pass the most elequent jewel,
for time comes unopposed.

Tho' once sprout teeming with youth,
a rose does but become dust,
and so its existence ends in truth,
the object of thy sinful lust!
