Can't Hurry Love

Friday the 6th, a day that put an idea in mind.
When I figured I'd do a deed kind.
You told me how you two drifted apart.
How you were gonna make yourself a heart.

Make yourself Valentine's card, for that day.
A subtle clue of my actions, did I say.
Then I bought a card for you, a gift from a friend.
With any luck, the grief will mend.

I left it on your desk last Friday.
My good deed, unexpected, on Valentine's Day.
I smiled, despite my lonely state.
Even though I expected no thanks, to be my fate.

I'm glad I was able to make you smile.
And it kept me happy, as I traveled many a mile.
As Phil Collins says, "You can't hurry love."
I'm accepting this turn of events from God above.

I'll be there for you, friend that I've been.
As you've been for me, as far as I've seen.
If I fall for you, I'll follow my heart.
I'll be careful, lest it rend a friendship apart.

I guess that's one thing learned from the pain.
Learned from loving my Lili Marlene.
Don't hurry love, for just simply wait.
For opportunity knocks, and chance and fate.
And I've got a date for lunch and a movie.
And whatever may follow, I'll soon see.

(big angel hugs) Phil Collins is right, and though I'm sad to see this didn't work out, you will find the most precious love just like hers and you will find true happiness forever!
