Why is it when your heart is tormented
You are at your creative best?
It seems you need to get it out
Or never will you rest.

Even light in its purity
Cannot your spirits raise,
But put the pen to paper
And the ink is set ablaze.

Anger, confusion, love or sorrow,
The words don’t even care.
They beat down paths right through your soul
Entrapping you in their lair.

Releasing is the only thing
Your mind even comprehends.
It wants to let the emotions flow
But, in the end, defends.

You struggle with the song of life
For no one knows all the words.
You hear it playing deafeningly
Through flightless, naked birds.

To do your best is not enough,
Timing must be right.
So, off you go to find your soul
On paper, through the night.

When the body is complete,
Your shoulders aren’t as heavy.
Your words have formed and let death out
Like the breaking of a levy.

You feel relieved, as well you should,
For that cross now is lighter.
When another weight has come
Remember… you’re a writer.

putting pen to paper is the best way to release all things,,,,,(rumor has it they do that in some therapies,,,not that i've been there ) but, we can share our thoughts more easily in print,,,,,because people can take what we say at their own speed,,,good write,,,much enjoyed

How very very true this is!
When upset, frustrated or in doubt...
I pick up my pen and write it out.

Excellent write Shereen!

Thank you all so much.  I really needed to find others with whom I could share in poetic expression.  I have truly missed this and yes, Betty Lou, I'd have to agree - even after only being here a couple of days - this does seem to be the best site on the net!  You're all so kind.
Thank you again,
Shereen.

Shereen; you are so right...when my emotions are high, then I write like crazy...but of late, i have found a new peace and the poetry seems to flow in a different and wondrous way...who can figure...I love the way you write...hugs, Ellie

Thank you, Ellie!  That means alot to me.  It seems when I'm at peace, my poetic brain goes on vacation or something.  When I'm stressed or saddened, though, watch the words fly!   I don't understand it either, but I love it!  (Don't quite know what I'd do without it - that's for sure.)
Your friend,
Shereen.

Interesting write, a lot of directions and images, lots to bite into.  I love feasting on a poem and this delivers.

Shereen,

You struggle with the song of life
For no one knows all the words.
You hear it playing deafeningly
Through flightless, naked birds.

You express yourself so well, great imagery and truth is spoken here.  When the matters of the soul are released on paper, a burden lifts.

Well done fellow Michigander, Write on!

Dennis
