The "Girls" Next Door

Two sisters lived next door to us.
They both were old and frail.
The oldest one was named Louise.
The youngest, Abigail.
They wore their dresses to the ground.,
With white shoes on their feet.
The gray hair curled around each face,
So dignified and sweet.

We used to talk across the fence.
Inconsequential things!
I learned Louise crochets and tats
And that "young Abie" sings.
They had a gardener who would come.
Each week he could be seen
Trimming, mowing,watering, so
Their yard was neat and green.

I used to envy them because
Their lives were calm, complete
And from the busyiness of mine
I wanted to retreat!
But then one Christmas Eve, I came,
With quick steps to my door.
My house alight with family.
Joy filled me to the core.

I glanced across the hedge and saw
The sisters standing there,
With a nose pressed to each window,
At my house they did stare.
I felt the waves of lonliness
Wash through each shiny pane
And so I brought them home with me.
It was my family's gain!

Nice write. I liked the rhyme to this one and the inspirational message! Sometimes things aren't always what they seem. A happy ending in a win/win situation.
very touching,

A very sweet story. Reminds me of a mother and daughter that lived near me.
Enjoyed.
