I wonder why the books today Aren't thrilling like the one's I read When I was but a growing girl; At night with blankets over head. My mother said 'twas time for bed And I would climb in right away; Eager to read the pages that I had no time for in the day. We had no television then, No other way the world to know. The words would whisk me from the sheets To places I had longed to go. Then little sister would complain. The light was keeping her awake. I'd close the book, still longing for The trips I thought I'd never make. I've traveled since that long ago, Far distances by car and plane. The sights I've seen cannot compare To reading under counterpane. By Joyce 7/15/2001 |

We can travel anywhere between the covers of a book! Well done, Joyce! You brought back a memory or two for me! |
