an akward state of mind

They say that poetry comes from the heart,
Expressions of emotions from within,
Silent feelings you want to get out,
So maybe others can read and reflect.

But poetry is only words on paper.
Ink on processed trees.
Nothing known to man
Can truely describe how you feel,
And translate those feelings
To another person's mind
So they positively
Know how you feel.

There are thousands of words,
But infinate emotions.

So what you feel
Is stuck in your head
And it can never come out.
And if it does, and you believe,
You'll still never know for sure
If it is captured by another mind
In the same way
It was locked in yours.

There are thousands of words,
But infinate emotions.

BlackAndWhiteHorizon~

Ah, but I have this notion
that word-thoughts that fly my way
are meant to be shared with others
to enjoy on any given day~

Interpretations of their choosing
sits with me just fine ...
the poetry within my head
is not really mine~

For I am but the vessel
into which the thoughts are poured
My mission in this life ...
is to see that they are shared~

For kept locked in the vessel
they would die an untimely death for sure
Releasing these emotions touches another ...
of THAT I am sure~

Thank you for 'inspiring' my thoughts to leap to my pen~
I hope you keep sharing with us~

horizon.....

I believe that you are right in a way....we may try forever to get someone to understand the feelings in our heart, but I also believe that the reason we are poets is because we are compelled to succeed at just that.

I agree with you, Ranea, and I think that's a good way of putting it.

It's true.  We can never really tell if our words make another feel how we do/did...but it's every poets wish I think.  Good job expressing the limitations a poem has.
