Yesterday

Just when I think that I can sleep,
My memory decides to keep
A vigil over yesterday
And carries me away.
Back to the past, reluctantly,
To where my childhood waits for me
And I re-live the joy and pain
Of growing up, again.

The places and the faces there
Are lost to me, but I still care.
Remembering them is sweet and yet,
I wish I could forget.
For sorrow walks those roads with me
And makes unwelcome company.
The hands of time, still can't dispel
Remembering, so well!

I like this. And Betty: Yesterday, is a cold. Gone for a while, yet come back, just like memories. I hope the good one come back more often than the bad one.

I really like this piece. It was true, and well put. Emotions put down so well on paper. Enjoyed.

A blessing and a curse. I know the feeling well Betty. Well written my friend.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

DearSweetLady~
You 'knew' I would find my way to this one~
To walk the roads of yesterday is sometimes the most beautiful trip I could take ... at other times it runs me head-on into memories better left 'unremembered' ... but, for the most part .... it's a trip not to be missed~

This is simply beautifully done~

Moon Dust and passing shadows:

I should be checking on these older poems more often. I am late in replying to Moon dust and I'm sorry. I appreciate all the comments that I get. Thanks to both of you.

Dear Betty Lou

This poem reminds me of that song called 'Yesterday'!

The last few verses of your poem:

For sorrow walks those roads with me
And makes unwelcome company.
The hands of time, still can't dispel
Remembering, so well!

SO TRUE!!!!!!!

Dear Betty Lou:

I guess I should apologize to Simon & Garfunkel for using this title, but I honestly did not think of their song when I wrote this.  I may have written it before I ever heard their song as it is an older poem.

Dear Betty Lou

No need to appologize to Simon and Garfunkel.  I'm sure they do not mind the title of your poem.  I'm sure others like myself have written poems with the same names as title of songs and books without realizing.

Dear Isobel:  I hope Simon and Garfunkel are as lenient as you are, if they ever come across this poem..........which isn't likely!

Love
