I woke up at 4:44  a.m. Just couldn't sleep too well
Ate 4 eggs, got dressed for work, and kissed my wife farewell.
I hailed down a taxi....it was taxi 444
Told him to go to 4th and Main where I worked in a store.

I found 4 pennies on the seat and pocketed the change
Then saw the date was April 4th, which struck me rather strange.
The number 4 seemed to invade me in some grand attack.
I changed my mind and told the driver "Take me to the track!"

I knew this wild influx of fours was certainly a sign
And if I used it wisely, fame and fortune would be mine!
I checked the 4th horse in the 4th race.....Fourplay was its name!
I took my cash from ATM and bet it on the same.

So that's the way it was, my friends. The tale I tell is true.
Perhaps some day, you'll see the same thing happening to you.
Events that happened on that day have changed my whole net worth.
I've since become a skid row bum. The damn horse finished fourth!!!!

Let me put fourth a few thoughts,
about Skid Row and Hourse No. 4, pot-shots,
Gambling ain't no habit four good reasons,
Amongst the best music made is still Four Seasons.

18 and Life to go, and a Slave to the grind,
SKID ROW rocked four all night long,
Rolled a few ciggies, Claws metalheads find,
Wasted Time is still my favourite SKID ROW song....

.......
Balladeer, I had written a similar one n no. seven, all written, because I found myself awake at 7 AM on a sunday morning, which is an impossible happening for me, and then I started believing in miracles...

This was a nice, humorous one, really enjoyed the four-tunes of the endeavour...

regards, sudhir

Sounds like your 4mer betting was
4shadowed by 4boding!
No 4mula can 4cast fate
or 4tune by encoding --
4knowledge un4seeable
4shadowed, not 4thcoming --

4play, my friend, was on the track,
but not 4cibly winning.
4bearance won be4hand --
can't 4tell in the beginning.

So, when you bet on horses
with some 4gone 4ced conclusion,
you may just have a 4feiture
4going bet's illusion.

4give me, sir, 4 writing this
with 4thought in this 4um.
My 4lorn 4eign 4thwith words
show no 4mal decorum.

hehe
sorry for the length of this...i got a little carried away... i think you inspired me... LOL

cute poem, michael! thanks for sharing this... made me laugh the whole way through!

Absolutely hilarious, Balladeer!!  But, of course, I should have expected no less.  Very impressive.

Passing the buck I mean luck

Three days ago I had some strange luck
Oddly enough it started when I landed in three feet of muck
Thrown from my horse because of a triple buck

Got the muck out of there I mean my hair
I was all mucked up but felt fair
So I took off my clothes and walked home bare

Seen a taxi and jumped in the door
There was a penny on the seat and three on the floor
Picked the three up but they fell as the driver yelled "get out, get out, get out and swore"

*Enjoyed your poem thanks for the inspiration*

Balladeer,
I hope you've luckier in love than at that darn track.  You're a funny guy!
Four sure...
What's with the half rhyme... worth/fourth.
Totally unexpected ending in two ways.
