“POET FRIEND” I have sat and read all of your words, Many, many times, I have read them over. And in the lonely stillness of the night, Their sweetness is like crimson and clover. You write about a lonely heart, And a faint flame, that flickers there. My answer is words of romance, and tenderness, But where they come from, I know not where. Maybe they come from that picture of you, Or I wonder, is it those soft blue eyes. Perhaps from the dark hair, flowing down your back, Possibly, coming from that pretty smile, as I walked by. Words of romance, and words of daydreams, Finding their way into your heart. One little hope, one tiny flicker of light, That’s all it takes, for a romance to start. Picture words of tenderness, fantasy, and dreams, Or things like daffodils, sugarplums, and lace. All of these look for an entrance into your heart, But I have been very touched, by your pretty face. Gentle eyes can only read all the words, But a soft empty heart will never be stilled. Self-control seems to be at a loss, Has my pen touched emptiness, needing to be filled? I accept the words that you must say, And I listen, understand, and feel the meaning. For you see, when I read all your words, My soft blue eyes light up, and start beaming. So let me say my dear poet friend, Our words do complement each other, they do. And my heart does know that this special gift, Is shared by so very, very few. “All of these words, I return to you”.
