An Ode to the Ethereal... a Tribute to Seymour and all other painters |

Last weekend, I had been to The Netherlands and happened to visit the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam... Shall I just say that it was captivating? Karilea (Sunshine) suggested that I should write about the impression it created upon me and I did. Thanks Karilea for the push... I hope you enjoy the read as much as I enjoyed being there -------------------- ~~~ -------------------- An Ode to the Ethereal Reflections of light at their very best, Not caused by sunrise or sunset hues - But by a ray falling from a crown's crest, Lending its shine upon objects of daily use. The dropping light reflected as well - Off surfaces of all of these articles; W.C. Heda had them captured well, Creating unity in unseen particles. 'Tis said that none else could render Reflections just as perfectly as he; Casting shadows of light asunder, He'd brought hypnotic magic upon me. I moved on in my foray of viewing art, Realising the whale of a time I had there; At the Rijksmuseum of Decorative Art, Painting and Sculpture - that was where. Amongst many works that caught my eye; It stood tall, Rembrandt's The Night Watch - A lively portrayal of militiamen in action high, Dramatically illuminated - a spectacle to watch. Reluctantly, I turned to The Stone Bridge - Another Rembrandt beauty with an eerie light; A painting of a thunderstorm across the ridge, Luminous spots in dark settings gave me a fright. "Time to close", said the guard in a voice so shrill, "Five PM" whilst angry faces checked their clocks; Time was short, to me it seemed to be shorter still, But the memory of that time, in my mind - is locked. Glorious paintings from extraordinary painters, Bring out life's impressions in ways most surreal; Leaving onlookers like me inspired to be writers! Ah! But how could I avoid this ode to the ethereal! ~ [This message has been edited by Sudhir Iyer (edited 07-28-2000).] |

Absolutely wonderful....I do so love the way you write. Great read my friend. * I actually lived in the Netherlands for 3 years and the beauty of that country takes me aback and your poem has pulled out those old memories. [This message has been edited by Mark Bohannan (edited 07-28-2000).] |

Sudhir, a picture paints a thousand words also a great poem can paint a thousand pictures. And your poetry could feel that Gallery a 100 times over. A beautiful piece, thank you for the tour. "A frog, it cannot comprehend the sea Nor me happiness" Paul Draper-Mansun |
