As Music Played On... Peering out the open window Night air warm with kiss of breeze Stars shine bright, a moon lit 'show' Counting twinkles in night sky seas She has these thoughts, these memories. It's 12 o'clock, "The Midnight Hour" This song then comes into her mind Thinking now of "flower power" Another place, another time As the clock bells finish their 11th chime. And as the 12th chime rings off-key The memories, harsh, returned with song Dusty's "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" Comes across her mind so strong "Believe me, believe me," she felt so wronged. For song had broke, into the news About this war we fought and lost A bomb was dropped upon a few Of those who became wars deadly "cost" And 'he' was part of troop that lost. Her heart then froze, her mind had numbed For all had seemed so good to be Into a trance she now succumbed Was dying, need hear a word from 'he' As music played on, "Let It Be Me." The songs continued, she cried into the night "When A Man Loves A Woman," a new song Was so overwhelmed, so filled with fright Couldn't sleep, remembering words "She can do no wrong" He was in her thoughts, all the evening long. Then tears fell while listening to "Rhythm of the Rain" As thoughts weighed heavy of moments shared Remembering first dance, first touch, now pain Questions arise, a future, she dare? Trying to keep thoughts from going nowhere. "The End of the World" began to play And the tears continued, she felt so 'down' When before the rise of sun, next day News had come and turned her around Her 'love' not lost, her 'love' now found. And joyous now her heart was beating Saw the moon in all it's glow Slowly disappearing meeting Sun's arrival with rainbow "Goodmorning Starshine's" words now flow. Maureen |

I really enjoyed this Maureen, and I too love how music plays the background themes in our lives...and how much we are defined by that...thanks... |

Maureen, Nice expressive writing here. I can hear the music in the background playing softly while the story unfolds. Beautiful. It seems as though all our life there is music in the background. I like that. Lone Wolf Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Oh this is awesome!! I can't think at the moment who sings it, but there's a country song called "The song remembers when" and this piece reminded me a lot of that. This was so beautiful. A sad kind of nostalga came over me, but I loved it. Great piece! --You can either take me as I am...or you can watch me as I go.-- |

Maureen that must have been one hell of a night because I've been there a few times with Skeeter Davis's End of the World. It gets to me every time I listen to it... Glad you had a better next day...James |

Maureen~ Such a reminder that the music that fills our souls is but poetry sung .... *TennesseeAngel~ It's Trisha Yearwood who does that lovely tune, 'The Song Remembers When'. Truly it does ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Maureen, this is good. I don't think there was ever a period of time more represented by its music than the 60's and 70's with Viet Nam, flower power, the beat generation, Kent State, and so many other influences all orchestrated by the music of the day...thanks for the memory |

Marge thanks for the "Trisha Yearwood"..I have the worst memory matching artists to titles...sometimes I think my brain is memory full and needs to delete a few things..just haven't found the write "key" to that yet... ~~smiling M and Eloise..I thank my memory for those tunes that do bring back wonderful emotions of the past... thank you both Maureen [This message has been edited by MMoonchild (edited 07-30-2000).] |
