Travels with Jane Jane and me never really got along Never understood one another, But our mothers were old friends Our lives mixed by gentle force. “Go on and play with Jane now,” Mom and Jane’s mother smoking, Drinking beer in the Arizona heat - Midnight in the blacktop desert. When Jane came to California I took her into the Pacific, It was the biggest surf of the year She’d never been in the ocean. Lifeguards had to rescue us both Thought I was a strong swimmer Or maybe it was just my Karma, Jane never saw me in the same way. Later when we became women We thought we should meet again So I flew off to meet her in Boise We drove up Montana way. Jane went shopping for Peach Schnapps But they didn’t sell booze on Sundays. Our cabin faced the Grand Tetons A blue moon lit up a mirror lake. I recall the best blueberry pancakes In a dive down in Jackson Hole, Jane showed me orgasmic geysers Spouting off in Yellowstone. She was going downhill fast Something I could not fathom Lost her kids to her mean old Ex, And a secret drug addiction. Now Jane seems to be missing Along with her mother, Eloise Brother Chip is in the state Penn And the Ex has taken his leave. Whatever happened to Jane, Seems I was never very kind Couldn’t understand her weakness Dear Jane, I’m so ashamed. Now and then I think of you In a new town in Vermont Or some other small berg With a happy, simple life. © 2000 Corinne Bailey |

Thanks Brian, I hope so, too. Park, thank you. A strange relationship, to say the least. I have to wonder if she's still alive. MMoonchild, Rex, Sudhir and Tony, thank you. Corinne |

Very sad, Corinne. Sometimes I forget that some people have such a rough life. I hope she has found happiness, somewhere. Great writing. Denise |
