This was first posted in the corner pub as a response to Brian's wonderful challenge... Since then I have changed a few lines here and there cut out some wayward (presumptuously) misguided lines and here it is in its present form...

My JAR of STARS
(JAR   Just Another Ramble)

Year 2020, it was when
I met Mr. Bond,
J a m e s   B o n d
Quite old, he was then,
Grumpy and coughing,
Freckled and puffing.
Youth had thus vanished
from the most unlikely
star that had graced
Planet Earth's 'holy' woods.
It seemed as if age had
finally caught up with him!

Well, by then
Superman had died,
Spiderman got lost
caught in his own web.
And He-man ~
he met a she-woman,
got married, was kids-a-raising
instead of doing the world-a-saving
by the power of his Grey Skull
No grey matter though
had ever existed, never so,
Just yeoman heroism of occult!

F l a s h  G o r d o n
was just a mere icon,
fighting Mighty Ming using
Virtual Reality Machines,
And dominoes-a-playing
Mandrake sat joined
by beautiful Narda,
Where was his twin Cobra?
While Mickey, he simply was
with mini enjoying his life
and Uncle Donald selfishly laughed
loud enough to make me scoff!

Then Bond said to me "I am Bond,
James (cough) (cough) Bond,
Cigarette Agent from Tobacco Land Agency".
A growl of a cough and he fell down,
I picked him up, held him, patted his back,
And out came a periscope
from the back of his wrinkled neck.
And out came a note which read
Upon my death tell Her Majesty's Cigarette Service,
Tobacco is harmful with Nicotine its poison,
Whilst Caffeine is exhilaratingly vile;
He died breathing his last forlornly puffed breath!

And all I could then think was -
Stars have their moment and then they die
In the rain with heartfelt pain,
We as fans simply await to see
a new star's rise beyond the horizon.
Realising sadly that
a fallen star is no idol anymore -
Time to move on to the next star
and then praise him to highest heavens
till he dies suffocated by
a false invincibility myth,
surrounding him!

Sudhir-What a message.  Great read and though it be a serious one I found myself chuckling in some spots.  Your talent is always a treasure to read.
( me thinks parts are serious)

Was this supposed to be serious?
I laughed all the way through (sorry)
I was never into super heroes, so I was kind of glad spider man got caught in his own web. I loved this poem, and apologize for laughing. Though the tobacco part is close to my heart, even super heroes die from smoking, and that isn't so funny. But your poem is great, and I'm still smiling

Mark and Liz,
You are both right on cue here... only the last stanza is filled with anything close to being sensible...

thats why probably its a JAR of stars...

Thanks a great deal for joining in the fun and lets make this a laugh-riot soon....

Keep smiling,
regards,
sudhir

You've written well! It's serious, but humorous too.
So often these 'stars' are held as idols. They do fall regardless, and put their pants on one leg at a time just like we do.

I really enjoyed this one Sudhir!

WhtDove,
Truly spoken indeed... Thanks for reading and for your response...

Juliet,
well, batman and robin went hunting for the riddler but then bat girl knocked them down and you know what - even phantom went riding - a hooded "hero" with "devil" behind him...
Thanks for joining in the fun...

I have to thank Brian first and foremost for the catch line... and the inspiration and the rest is all perspiration as they say...

regards,
sudhir

My calling before me, let quill be my offering;
For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive.

A wonderful ride on a superheroic parody of epic proportions...... but what was the challenge????...btw- i chose to release myself from tobacco's viselike grip this past January.
