Still Moments

This morning,
stopping just at the mudroom door
blinking through the dancing speckles of sun
I am taken
to the warm doorway
of Grandmother's house,
where I would stand for
still moments,
my palms pressed upon the calming wood,
my breath coming slowly,
the glass unfogged,
the heat of the August morning
rising in ripples
above the blacktop road,
watching for the front of Mama's car.

there's something to be said for brevity ... i think you've said it here ... impact ... that's what i look for in a piece ... do you like to do collaborative work?

My calling before me, let quill be my offering;
For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive.

M.A. thank you for your kind commentary. Free verse is not my customary style of writing, but this seemed to lend itself to the format. As for collaboration, I've written fiction with a co~author but have had little experience co~authoring poetry. Feel free to e'mail me.

Elizabeth, thank you for reading!

Sudhir, thank you so for your thoughtful response!

Terry, such enthusiastic words from you have brightened my day...thank you!

It's amazing how the wonderful computer of the mind will bring back events or scenes from the past like a flash and leave them in the mind's ram to contemplate so sweetly.
This is excellent free verse...as much a part of an art form as any.....I could visualize you with your palms against Grandma's door looking for Mom's car...Great work

Martie, thanks. Isn't it peculiar how something as simple as the feeling of approaching a warm door can bring memories?

ethome, yes, I believe it is amazing how that can be! Thank you for reading this today.

Bonnie, thank you for your sweet response. Memories are powerful events, aren't they?

Mark, I thank you for the "superb"... very nice of you to let me know you enjoyed it.

serenity, I am very flattered ~ thank you sincerely.

MMoonchild, yes, thoughts of Grandmothers are plentiful, of late, to be sure. Thank you for your kind response.

Brian, thank you! Your "magical" made my evening.

Kit, thank you. One of the most fruitful results of sharing a poem is to know that the reader has "felt" it. You have made my day!

Tracie, thank you kindly for your enthusiasm. (and for reading, of course!)

Sven, yes, memories can be precious...and that we even have the capability to store such minute details in our minds is, well ~ mindboggling! Thanks for reading, my friend.

Toddles, thank you, sincerely. I don't have as much time to write as I used to, but it's something I do enjoy. So nice of you to let me know you enjoyed this.
