Soft the rain plays on the pane,
Light drumming,
Slacking to return again
With background noise that soothes me,
slight beating,
Of a faint heart that proves me
In time with the drizzles fall,
Keep drumming
Against the window you call
To me to be within touch,
Keep beating
Seeing little seeing much,
Storm’s running.

Today the rains played on my mind
At first they trickled through the grays
A soothing noise, they carried me
In arms of dreaming through the haze

I saw you coming, gloom and all
You almost reached within my mind,
The beating on the window panes
Made viewing you too hard to find...

And so on went my day of doom
My welcome to you, Professor Gloom
May all your words be filled with gray
And spirit us when passed this way
