PLEA OF THE FEATHERED SEED ...

Wind's whisper, softest voice to hear;
Sends a feathered seed to my open ear.
To hold captive for time eternal;
Or, let freedom chance the winds infernal.

Its journey, thought nearly complete;
May have just begun, more to compete.
Its fate I hold in my hands so tender;
To become its destroyer or brave defender.

Lift the velvet feathers against my cheek;
Giving life's chance reason to speak.
To continue its upward aerial adventure;
Its request to me, to break our indenture.

To hear the plea of the feathered seed;
Small voice to free or keep, I concede.
My only friend of the day, to fly away;
Or, to keep in my stay for another day.

Staring down at innocent's shying face;
My heart moved to free or suffer disgrace.
Away again on wind's whispers so soft;
Away again, seed of life, to float aloft.

My calling before me, let quill be my offering;
For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive.

Mark this is exceptional ...
and how many times now have i said that to your work...
pardon the lack of my words to do justice to yours.
I have read nearly every poem you've posted
Im sorry to say that i just dont have time right now to reply to each one as I would like to...but i would like to use this reply to tell you how excellent your work is and to say what a pleasure it is to read your poetry.
I crave rhyme and you do it so very well.
thanks for sharing your gift.
take care

that have never been touched.
There are places inside our hearts -
that need to be loved this much.

martie and JM ... thanks so much for those words of kindness and support ...

i read so much of the work posted on this
site and i know the talent that resides
here ... i am but a slaving layman,
scratching out the very existence of my
soul's voice ... if, by chance, i may have
happened to invoke an emotion or thought
through my musings, then my life is done and
call it complete ... i venture, my life is
just begun and my words incomplete, so i
write on, in hopes of catching greatness by
its coattails and thrashing it about, 'til
it gives in to my every wish ... this is the
essence of my life ... cursed with never
ending aspiration ...

I have the hardest time replying to poems that are written so well that I can't possibly find the words to amply express my awe at the talent displayed.  So I will just say Damn, that was truly beautiful.  Thanks for sharing!

and i thank you, Jan ... this work was a result of having taken a walk at lunchtime ... fortunately, there are park benches close to where i labor ... this feathered seed literally landed at my feet while i was taking my lunch there ... it spoke to me in the quietest of ways ...

"Away again on wind's whispers so soft;
Away again, seed of life, to float aloft."

Lovely writing, to be sure, and that you take the time to dwell upon how the slightest details of our world relate to the whole of it brings me to the obvious and delightful conclusion that you are a poet where it is most important ~ in your heart.
