I'm like that last Autumn leaf
clinging to the branch
like my life depends upon it

Swaying in the bitter cold wind
still clinging to the highest branch

The cold wind trying hard to make me fall
but I hold on for dear life
.....so hard, I try

Then finally I give in
The cold wind has won
I let go with a gentle longing
.....and I cry

Tracie,
This is so sad...

To me the branch was like the last hope against the enemy - the cold autumn wind...

but you shouldn't give up hope for there is always a way out... at the end of the darkest tunnels, there would be but a ray of light flickering waiting for you to reach and then it will be bliss...

regards,
sudhir

P.S are you reading Robert Frost these days? just curious

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee,
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;

Sudhir~
I know this is so sad..I wrote this while waiting to pick my daughter up from school yesterday, it was a very cold wintery day and along the street the road was filled with trees losing those last autumn leaves, while watching one leaf just clinging by itself to the branch this is what I wrote
So glad you liked it sudhir and thanks for your comforting thoughts.
Thanks friend
Love Tracie~

What a compelling piece.
I've done that same thing when
caught in the awe of seeing the last
leaf on the tree hanging on with tenacity.

Also have been caught in a moment of
splendor in seeing the first leaf of spring
emerge as if to say ... 'here I am !'

I wish you warmth on the rays of the sun.

Well I just have to say
It's just a little bit to much
like something my wife wrote
back in forum #7 called
"Last leaf Clinging"

Last leaf clinging
gazing from dry yellow eyes at
the river below; swaying slowly on old
brittle bones; devouring one more hungry
glance before the snow. Releasing its
passionate clutch on the branch,
it sails in to the wind’s
buoyant face
and gently
tucks in
softly
to
the
laced rich
earth’s embrace.

Tracie,

Wonderful writing my friend.  I can see that solitary leaf hanging on for life to the tree.  Great images that come to mind while reading this.  Hope that fire has warmed you up!!  Hard to believe it is winter somewhere right now!!!

Take care,
LW
