Friends,
Believe me, I have nothing against Star Trek or for that matter the masses of sci-fi lovers who call themselves Trekkies...

regards, sudhir.
-----------------

"Cosmic Hues and Interstellar Overdrives"
Or just call it
"Mad cap fears a Nuclear Explosion after watching Star Trek"

Inane and mundane motions
of a Borg, with only one statement
"Resistance is futile" Wonder
'If they ever fall in love?' Forever,
hear them talking of assimilation and sorts!
Images of violent species,
Klingons drinking blood wine,
Fighting to death over nothing
Repulsive at times and how gothic!
Wanting "land" in spatial parallel universes.

Funny how Earthlings look handsome
and more beautiful than anyone else,
yet Captain Kirk always had his hands
full of the Other Species even if
they winked snake eyes!

Star Trekking
with USS enterprise
or a Voyager or in Deep Space 9,
maybe quadrant Alpha
or maybe Delta it was.

The V of logical supremacy,
I wonder why Vulcans joined their
two fingers together with such difficulty
to say what hare-brained Earthlings
can in one word peace.
Seems such an easy thing to say
Peace but has anyone
wondered why peace, serenity
or even tranquillity is worded longer
than die or kill?

A dumbish idiot, an oaf I am!
Of course they are longer
because they simply
take so much longer
to achieve.

Yet in the singularity of a
polarised atmosphere,
(does space have any?),
maybe children are actually
dropped by storks.

Funny how a singularity pulls
a star-ship into its own or is that
called a black hole instead;
caused by some super nova,
a random death of a lively star?
I thought Super Man never ate any food,
never saw him eating much,
So I wonder why a similarly named
Super Nova needs a ship or two
to fill his stomach!

Yet amongst those big dark shadows
caused on the other side of light,
by another Jupiter's moons
(are these called eclipses?)
I feel small and useless.
When the shape shifters shift
shapes of things and I am
left with Jeff Beck singing some blues
"I ain't superstitious" in a mellowed voice
instead of "I still have the blues"

I wonder if time travelling is indeed
a possibility, though I thought even
going to moon was useless and expensive,
considering the fate of hungry people
in drought-affected Africa.
Oh, I feel terrified of them
time travellers when Spock, Kirk
and party had their hands full of Kryptonite.
No wonder I find it difficult to sleep on
nights after the start trek show on TV.

This happened last night too.

Hi Sudhir.....
Your writing intrigues me and I
always look for more!! I'm a Star Trek fan
from many years ago, but I do think you
captured a lot of valid points. It was,
after all, just a tv show.
I really enjoyed this one, and I
think I'll go back and read it again!!!

Enjoyed reading this Sudhir...wouldn't that be something if poets could time travel or beam to another location...I know where I would beam myself...she would be waiting for me in red silk...we do have this technology available...yes???   If not...someone should notify the scientist and inventors to make it a top priority project...or perhaps we could clone Julia Roberts???  One for me and one for you...who would you like to clone...James

Sudhir-This was an interesting topic that you decided to write about.  I am not a Sci_Fi fan as a matter of fact I don't even watch T.V. ,  but I love the inquisition of your mind and the read was great.

What a trip you've taken us all on...SciFi, Star Trek, Twilight Zone...you could write for them as your imagination takes flights of fancy that put warp speed to shame!

Well done, m'friend!

This is great, sudhir!! As a trekkie first class, I love any poems dealing with this wonderful crew! The major endearing quality of Star Trek, and the reason it has endured so long, is that there was always an underlying moral lesson in each episode. There was one where the aliens had 1/2 of their faces white and the other half black and the problem was that the ones who had the right side black felt superior to the others...a lesson in racism. Another one, Picard is able to go back in time to change his life and finds out the changes could have made it worse. Another dealt with McCarthyism terror.
These messages were done in such a subtle way that the viewers didn't even recognize them but they felt that, for some reason, they loved the show. Star Trek probably did more to teach the general public character and morality and justice more than any other tv show in history. Thank you for your tribute

Yeah I know what you mean Sudhir.
I don't think Shatner ever took acting lessons either, though many love him. The trekkies do take this oh so serious so God bless them in a special way. I like the part about the earthlings always being the most handsome....ho hum ...the American way....
Take care....you don't know where our fine culture will take you next.....ethome....

Balladeer...
Though this was a tribute in a different way, I also took a dig at the programme itself... but I do agree that Star Trek went ahead way beyond probably it was ever planned adn into the realm of teachings and getting the social bearings right...

Thanks for reading and I am glad that you enjoyed...   I am glad that this did not upset you (you being a trekkie, and that was not my intent in anyway...) it was a jestful potrayal of the various characters and the various series...

ethome,
Thanks for reading and am hoping wherever I will be spatially adjusted (read placed) next, it will be a good place too...

Regards,
sudhir

Sudhir,
What an enjoyable read!
I simply love the way you write, and though I'm not that familiar with the show, just grabbing bits as I was walking through the livingroom, your descritions are priceless.
Very well written, a great deal of humor, and captivating read.
Great stuff!
