When news of the Dow is depressing,
And dyspepsia threatens my bowel,
And in drying myself before dressing,
I pull fists full of hair from my towel,

And when storms or drought are the forecast,
And mice in platoons roam my room,
And I'm fated, it seems, to grow poor fast,
As the bills roll in steady as doom;

Then the future is what I look out to.
The moment I live in I curse,
For if there's something there isn't a doubt to,
It's that the future couldn't be worse.
