Beep this

Maybe you should have to check in your cellphone and beepers today
like the bad guys checked in their guns back in the old western days.
Oh I'm not talking about at the saloon or at the bar,
I'm referring to when you go to the movies or when your driving in your car.
Then maybe we wouldn't be sitting in the movie right in the middle of a romantic love scene
and suddenly quite rudely somebodies beeper starts
to scream
real high pitched and irritating
like in a scary dream.
Now instead of watching the movie your thinking, yeah beep this if you know what I mean
and if your expecting such an important call
maybe you don't have an hour and a half to watch this movie after all.

Cellular Man

Now your on your way home from the movie
just crusin along and making pretty good time
when you notice this cell world guy in front of you enjoying some casual relaxing cellphone time
and at the very same time he has managed to rearrange the freeway
swerving and weaving and crossing over all the lines.
It seems he doesn't have anything better to do anyway
like perhaps drive his car in a safe and responsible way.
Oh didn't he tell you a cellular man doesn't need much skill for that task
why all you had to do was ask
and then you too could experience his daredevils skill
to steer with only one finger on his steering wheel
if only everyone could know this thrill.
Notice as he skillfully passes you on the right
how clearly you can see that cellphone light
and is all that squealing another annoying cellphone sound or tortured tires swerving around.
I wonder what would have happened if cellman got a call
while taking his drivers test around the mall.
He could have just said excuse me it seems I have an important call
how important could the parallel parking part be after all?
Or if his beeper went off in the middle of a busy intersection
he could just say excuse me...I need to stop and make a call
my friend would like to know right away if I'm still taking this stupid driving test
or am I ready to meet her in the mall.
Yes...it seems cellular world was going well
Everybodies favorite cell phone guy had managed to blame all the accidents on everyone else
and he had totally avoided going to jail
which would be a totally unacceptable kind of cell.
Til one day in cellular world the calls got kind of slow.
He called up every friend one man could possiby know.
but no one answered him at all...
a whole twenty minutes went by without a call
until he could no longer stand the silent pall.
So now there was only one thing left to be done
and so cellular man calls 911.

Well I sell cell phones, so the more phones the better.  Just use the vibrate modes, and a hands free kit and it will al be OK.

Isn't there a bumper sticker that says, "Perhaps you would drive better if that phone were up your butt!"? LOL.

James, I have never heard a phone going off in the middle of a movie but I had had people having a conversation throughout the film. I wish I had a really large sword with me when things like that happen. There should be a law...ok I am getting worked up. calm flowing river...calm calm...where were we, aw the poem, really enjoyed this great stuff, and I am proud to say I don't have a moblie.

Loved this. I say if you want to drive, drive. If you want to talk on the phone, pull the car over and park it!!! I think anyone driving along, talking on a cell phone should be arrested! It's a proven fact that they cause more accidents..just saw it on the news!

And cell phones in movies..yep I've seen 'em. Some guys go to the movies in the middle of the day in their suit and tie. Their phone rings and they answer it! Right there in front of 'moose and squirrel'!

And in the grocery store..walking along, shopping and talking on the phone. Excuse me? Who/what's so important?

This is SUCH a pet peeve of mine. (and I think it's a great idea to have one - especially women alone in a car, but please don't use it while you're driving in rush hour traffic!)

So true James!  Wonderful expression here ... I heartily join you in your cause! I was sitting in a seminar the other day, and off goes someone's cell phone ... the guy not only answered it ... he carried on a whole conversation over top of the instructor!  Rude, rude, rude!  You tell em!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Thank everyone for the interesting and wonderful responses.
I have experienced a few movie interuptions and somehow it changes the mood I'm in...if only they could pass a test to learn how to operate the beepers and cellphones so they could put them on vibrate or whatever.
I've also had two people having a conversation during a movie...the kind they should be having in a coffee shop and I ask them if they could please be quiet and they acted like I was the rude one.
Driving and talking on the cellphone seems to be a favorite pastime and as I approach them I can almost tell who is on a cellphone or drunk or half asleep...they all seem to drive the same...they are not driving safely...
I think beeper and cellphones...in some cases...give rude and obnoxious people just one more weapon in their arsenal.   I am not saying everyone that owns a cellphone is rude and obnoxious...only those that don't consider and respect the people around them and those that drive unsafefully due to a cell phone.
I wrote this to be funny but I realize this can be a serious subject also.  I appreciate any response whether it is funny or serious...James
