-never had a chance to- freestyle Long after the wedding bells stopped chiming. Long after the rice was swept up, thrown away. Long after the car was sold. Long after your children grew up, moved away. Long after your house fell to grass And you moved to a different hill. Long after the ocean was closer to the shore than ever. Long after you lost the thrill. Long after the cataracts in your eyes made the sky a blinding white. Long after the clouds evaporated at the seams. Long after a mudslide pushed your house into itself. Long after you gave up your dreams. Long after she cheated on you and you cheated on her. Long after you praised condoms more than your old etched cross. Long after you were placed in a box and fell asleep in dirt. Long after we forgot why we felt such loss. Long after we held hands, thinking it was a chain. Long after the links broke free. Long after we cooed lies into each other's ears. Long after we were no longer free. Long after the ringing of the phone through the cold air in the morning Was enough to make you shiver in bed. Long after everything we never had a chance to regret. Long after the things we never said. |

okay, okay, a litany of sobering thought... (normally, I hate sobering thought, but so much story in these lines...) keeping me thinking, you are... |

Thanks, everyone. And Butterflies_dont_cry, you got it right, there. I've been having a bad couple of days, and here's my attempt to swim back into the middle. Thanks, friends. Mike |
