(it's from my grandmother's diary: "I can dream and fancy far better Gods than you can meet on street corners.") lotharingia, sorry for not taking this challenge up sooner. THanks for the inspiration and I hope this meets your approval. to everyone else, lotharingia gave the above piece in response to a request I posted asking for images, ideas, inspiration when I had writers block. The results is below. Thanks again, lotharingia =================== Gods on street corners. I can dream and fancy far better Gods than you can meet on street corners. I can envision angels in the eyes of children, Their wings stretched to a golden future, they are simulated to obey but are far the wiser. I can see the young ones struggle with purpose bitterly lamenting the unpredictable hand of faith. They look to the high rise offices and cubicles, the sterile atmosphere and routine vocations. Their grand dreams shatter with the weight of obligation. I can hear the cry of the small child as its youth dies and lurid puberty replaces. I can hear the scream of teenage rage with lack of structure and no means to an end. I can hear the pathetic logic of the adult paving their way to into a social kingdom. I see death stalking, at night hear him knocking. I am old in my shoes, travelled many a mile. In my dying days I am allowed hindsight and freedom from obligation. With final breath I pass these words on to our flowering youth, Your time is fleeting, live each moment to its last and in your travels look for Gods even on street corners. "Beyond all this good is the terror,The grip of a mercenary hand,When savagery turns all good reason, There's no turning back, no last stand,"I.Curtis [This message has been edited by brian madden (edited 08-14-2000).] |

~My last read before bed and Ooh what a read it is!!! Brian,...I am amazed at what you pulled from that line. Incredible work. I will put my weary head down tonight with the most vivid of images and scenes and thoughts and candy for the mind. GoSh!!! I'll send you a line to save in a smelly old pair of shoes to dig out and work on on a blocked and rainy day. Take care B. *Peace. |

Brian, I am so flattered that you made a poem out of this! Especially since I am a great admirer of you writing! And even more so since you have succeeded in turning it into a work of art! You have packed so much wisdom in here, with so many wonderful words. A m a z i n g Lotharingia "Dreams are life, reality, creation" Miguel de Unanumo |

I concur. Amazing, what an artistic masterpiece. All I can say is, wish I had such a block. Be well Kethry. "It is the image in the mind that links us to lost treasures; but it is the loss that shapes the image, gathers the flowers weaves the garland."- |

Fantastic poem, Brian. Very good summation of life in its stages. Cat... Words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling, like dew, upon a thought produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions think. Lord Byron |

Lil OnE, thanks for you wonderful reply. Actually the poem was not written when I had writers block, I posted the request when I had writers block a few weeks ago. Sorry for miss leading everyone. SpitFire, wow can I say to that, your response was poetry in itself. THanks for your wonderful words. Yes spare lines are greatly appreciated, because I think my writer's block maybe returning I am stuck in the middle of a poem at the moment. Anyway thanks for your wonderful reply. Lotharingia, a work of art? Now you have me blushing. Thanks for the challenge, I am so glad that this meets your approval. THanks for your support and wonderful reply. May I sincerely echo your comments, I am also a great fan of your poetry. Kethry, thanks for your wonderful reply. Dawn, yes I once knew teenage rage well. Thanks for your wonderful words. Cat, thanks for reading and replying. "Beyond all this good is the terror,The grip of a mercenary hand,When savagery turns all good reason, There's no turning back, no last stand,"I.Curtis |
