This dark, empty void
Where life once grew
I try to forget
To start the day anew

And then it happens
I hear a baby's cry
I can no longer control myself
And I wonder why... WHY??

I let them take you
Didn't try to put up a fight
Tried to pretend
That it was alright

I'm so sorry, baby
How much pain did you feel?
I kept trying to forget
That you were real

You weren't just a fetus
A clump of tissue, a mistake
You were a child
Whose life I chose to forsake

My god, baby, I'm so sorry
That I made such a choice
Now I'll never see your smile
Never hear your voice

What color would your eyes have been?
Would you have had my curly hair?
My god, little baby
This damage has no repair

I wish I could hold you
And smell your baby smell
My soul will wander restlessly
In this infinite life of hell

I understand your pain. This is a devastating poem for anyone who has had to make this kind of choice. Let's not discuss what we feel is right or wrong with abortion as we are a poetry forum. Let's just feel the pain in this poem. Again..a wonderful poem, Kristin.
