Hold Him Up

Hold him up. He can yet to stand alone.
But watch just how quickly he tends to learn.
When time is right, his hands will slip away.
No matter when, this moment comes too soon.
First steps falter, then, with praise, step above.
Tiny hands learn to draw the bluest skies.
Little fingers pluck dandelions with awe.
Muddy treasures he in a new world finds
as he seeks his fierce fire breathing dragon
amid sunflowers and morning glories
in a kingdom where dad is surely king.
Watching him play and grow, I come to know
the brat boy who smirks and teases within,
even though a suit he wears in his day.
When evening closes with quiet whisper
the door of reality which would lead
a mind to within logic seek to stay,
another door opens where pillows fly
like catapults across white ceiling’s sky.
Then only when Simon Says dare we move
before he rushes into open arms
and topples two to the land of pure joy
where a child’s laughter balms a weary soul.
Take heed. Watch and learn. Rush him not to grow.
When tiny fingers reach for stronger hands,
hold him up. Teach him not to stand alone.

Without the experiance of love where would we be? We would have no memories to cherish.
With love it brings hurt with hurt bittersweet memories.

Why thank you, Heather, rosepetals!!
Sometimes a dad will just be a dad
and show you his word pictures...
I have two sons, and am admittedly
biased .....  *S*

What a wonderful response!
We learn as we go. Hopefully I learned enough that the mistakes I make this second time round will at least be original to me....*S*
Thank you muchly, dg.
