I wrote this after reading in my local paper about the death of a young girl, just before her parents received her exam results. Seventeen A brilliant scholar Planning for your future Life mapped out in detail One of the few to know Just where you wanted to go After school If your grades were good College Then a technical career Beating the boys at their own game While you waited for that letter A welcome break Away from the study and stress I wonder Did you ever feel Love's sweet caress A kiss A touching of hands as you walked Or was your mind still too full of exams Marking your map with alternative routes Just in case thing went astray An extra year at school perhaps Or re-sits in the spring I'm sure you thought you'd thought Of everything You did Almost If one today is worth two tomorrow's What would we give for yesterday Then you were here Now you are gone And just too late The letter came But you got good grades just the same Love is like the mumps.....the older you are, the harder it hits you! |

"If one today is worth two tommorrows what would we give for yesterday?" Great line! Very sad poem. Point well taken. |

Notlikely, You have done a remarkable job with this poem. Very sad indeed. I had a grandmother who died the day after she had a new oven installed, she had had the old oven for over 30 years. What good is a new oven if you're dead! Linda M. |

ethome Thank you - I didn't know the girl in question, but the story really touched me. I had to write something to capture my feelings of that moment. Linda Yes it was very sad. And I suppose an oven is a bit like good grades....lots of good things can come out of both of them.....provided you know how to use them!! |
