Heartbreak Street It’s a lonely walk down Heartbreak Street No one else can wear your shoes Or suggest a new direction Of the life you didn’t choose You must walk the pavement all alone And tread the steps yourself You cannot get off of Heartbreak Street To suffer somewhere else You’re a prisoner to your feelings To betrayal and deceipt You must carry on with dignity Alone down Heartbreak Street Every step is very painful And the burden hard to bear But you have to keep on walking Past the corner of dispair You cannot blame friends for stepping back It’s not a welcome place And you don’t make pleasant company When tears flow down your face It’s a bitter walk, a long, long road That windswept street of pain Til you allow a freind to warm you And protect you from the rain You’ll awaken one bright morning And you’ll find you’ve reached the end Stepping off the curb of misery So that you can live again With the lifting of the sorrow It’s now sunshine you are seeing But that lonely walk down Heartbreak Street Is carved into your being Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 07-09-2000).] |

It sounds as though you have stood up well to all those potholes on heartbreak street. very nice poem. Jamie Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. - Virgil. "Yield thou not to adversity, but press on the more bravely". |

Elizabeth, my friend~ You do not need to walk alone no matter where you go Just up the corner from Heartbreak Street is a place that well you know It's found upon the corner of Friendship and Grand If you can't find your way there I'll gently take your hand You'll know just why they call it so for just around the corner all your friends are waiting you'll never be a loner We'll come and walk with you and gently lead you to the Grand Friendship waiting to be a friend to you Love you - Love your poetry, my friend. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Yes, the heartbreak does become a part of us even after the healing comes. Excellent writing, Elizabeth, as always. Denise p.s. Just a note... I think dispair is spelled despair. |

Liz, I've walked down this street many times. Everyone there knows my name (or is that Cheers?) Anyway, you describe it well, and this gets my vote! Thank you for yourwonderful responses. I can see the ones who have been on this street. Sometimes we go back and visit, but for me the first time was the worst Liz |
