RoseElla Some time ago, in far off land Where foamy sea meets grainy sand Down where the mossy ash trees stand Near gardens planted all by hand ‘Twas born the sweet RoseElla Hair of auburn, eyes of blue Gifted mind and heart so true Into a beauty rare she grew As swiftly how the years they flew Maturing sweet RoseElla One sunny day at summer’s start She met a lad who won her heart To him her love she did impart And promised that they’d never part So loved the sweet RoseElla As story goes, or so I’m told When she was just Sixteen years old For Twenty nuggets of pure gold Her father pledged her hand to hold And married off RoseElla She loved him not, this man she wed And in the midst of wedding bed As images flashed through her head She called another’s name instead Sealing fate for poor RoseElla Blind and jealous, full of strife The man lashed out at her, his wife Stabbed her with his hunting knife And watched as she bled out her life So died the poor RoseElla Word spread fast through country side Of how the dear RoseElla died To reach her love, who sadly cried And crossed the ocean deep and wide To reach his dear RoseElla High on the hill where green fern grows Upon her grave, he placed a rose Then how or why, no one quite knows He took his life, so story goes To be with his RoseElla And legend has it to this day Sometimes at night beside the bay Near the graves where they two lay In gentle dance the lovers sway Her love and sweet RoseElla So if you pass by there some night When evening shadows dim the light And if perchance, you see the sight Of two in dance, don’t be a fright ‘Tis just the sweet RoseElla What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compaired to what lies within us. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson |

Ruth, I was a captive audience from the first line to the last. The flow of this just sings. Great poem. |

Most magnificent! Truly a fine fine poem. Great story, great everything. Jamie Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. - Virgil. "Yield thou not to adversity, but press on the more bravely". |

You spin a tender tale of undying love. Take me as I am or watch me as I go |

Ruth, this is exceptional in tale and telling. I agree with Balladeer, this would haunt as a folk song. Just lovely, my friend. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Ruth - a haunting tale. Naturally, if the roles had been reversed in that bed that night, the man would not have been killed - Rose Ella would have allowed him to live so she could punish him for the rest of his life - heh heh. I hope all is going well for, sweet Ruth. |

Even more Haunting and beautiful than Wuthering Heights. "To the centre of the city where all roads meet, waiting for you,To the depths of the ocean where all hopes sank, searching for you," Joy divison |

Hi Ruth, I don't seem to find time to come over here often but I'm glad I did today. This one is just wonderful. From the first line to the last I was pretty much mesmerized. Thanks, Pete |
