"The Bridge Across Forever"*

For years I looked for someone that I could call my own.
Time after time I thought that I had found the right one.
With hair like gold and eyes like the sun.
But like birds leaving the nest, they flew away, and left me alone.

Time after time I swore to myself, "Never again!"
But then the depression would follow.
Without someone in my life, I felt so hollow.
And I would play the fool again, but the story always wound up the same in the end.

As I entered the summer before my twentieth year,
My heart saw a ray of sunshine.
But my mind said, "Still looking for the one you can't find?"
"Forget about your heart, because you won't find her here.

But then I met you and the search continued.
The topics for our first discussion flew by in my mind.
But for some reason, turtles and frogs were all that were on your mind.
And my mind tried to think of something witty to impress you.

During the summer, our friendship grew.
My heart kept saying, "This is the one!  This is the one!"
But my mind kept saying, "If this is the one,"
"Don't tell her 'I love you'."

But then one day my heart said that it couldn't afford to lose you.
My mind kept telling me,
"Don't do it!  Don't do it!'
That was the day I first told you, "I love you".

That summer will always be a treasured memory of mine.
But there is one part
That will always have a special place in my heart.
When we shared our love for the very first time.

And now, as I sit here across the table from you.
I can almost see the tears forming in your eyes.
Please remember that it's all right to cry.
And as I take you in my arms, the only words that I'll say will be, "I love you."

I did enjoy this, Sven. Isn't it interesting to sift through the "vaults" from time to time? At nineteen, I was writing songs and fancied myself the next (female) Bob Dylan. My how time flies...

Thanks for sharing a little bit of you...

Lovely and a bit sad.  Underlying message is that we must first love ourselves.
