(touched by the sound of a pow-wow)

The Drum

The drum the drum
full of the rhythm of burning
slow and deliberate
the heart’s cadence
where the soul vibrates
the wolf pricks up her ears
the eagle searches the tundra

The bells of movement
the circumference of the dance
like laughter like stars
like moonlite on fast water
the bells

The drum the drum
it is the silent prairie wind
the buffalo running
the baby stilled and sleeping

It is a warrior crying
it is strength
moving forward
looking back
a prayer a song a dance

feathers and fur
stretching time
the dance the music
the drum the drum.

the life

Martie~

And you knew your little Cherokee friend
would be here to dance to this one ...

'It is a warrior crying
it is strength
moving forward
looking back
a prayer a song a dance'

You please me with this.
There is magic serenity in the drums.

Martie, I can hear the rhythms every word. I just want to dance wildly to this poem.

Such elemental forces in your writing here...reverberant, "feeling" verse, Martie.

I loved the way you tied the drum into the voices of nature and life itself.  You have paradiddled your way to my soul on this and I thank you for that.  EXCELLENT

Martie-just a very basic pattern in drums 101......but very rhythmic and powerful.  Yes, Native Americans use them all the time, however I do not know the term if any that they use for this.

Yes, the drum sounds whether we hear it or not...and the spirit walks where it will, and when it will in what we define as time. This spirit you speak of, I have met...as you know. Another has met you, as you may also know....
