(Four poems on the subject - each a mixture of old memories and current fantasies - written in the past 2 years) Afterwards We've slept, and woken Eyes still coated with sleep Bodies still feeling sleep's lethargy Our eyes focus Our minds return to the present And the recollection Of how we fell asleep I see your eyes See the softness there See the love Feel the calm Feel the warmth in your smile I'm immobilized by the ocean color Imagine I'm swimming between The foam white and the iris Ready to dive through the cornea Be swallowed by you a new way Your total giving of self Inspiring my own Has brought a new dimension To our love To our lovemaking The titanic quality of it Outshining all that has gone before That you chose me Over all the others You might have chosen Makes me simultaneously Humble and proud I smile, caress your cheek Your face lights up A million candle power And you stretch your head To kiss me And it starts All over again ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Immediately After The world has ceased revolving The old clock in the hall ticks not Slowly vision returns to my eyes I see your eyes half shut below me Your mouth still open With the sound of your last ‘ahhh’ Suspended in the air between us A single bead of sweat fallen From my forehead frozen in space Venus reflected in its crystal clarity I hear the first ‘tock’ of the clock Resuming in slow motion As our smiles break Out in simultaneous recognition Of another miracle we’ve created Sound returns to the capsule of our continuum. And though we remain motionless Venus hits your nose We feel the earth move again And our laughter rings in our ears ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Afterthoughts I'm lying here radiating heat Sweat still running down my forehead Newborn naked cooling rapidly Your breathing returning regular Close beside me, I feel your warmth Drops glistening on your skin Those places where we touch Yet the tiny branding irons That fused us at our peak Sunlight stealing in the room Shafts of light yellow bars of dust motes Giving heavenly approbation I lightly trace your face With my eyes, then my fingers Then again and again As if to memorize by touch As if you'll leave and I must remember And I just want this moment Forever I just want you by my side ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After I look down at you in sleep I feel doubly blessed- That you loved me and That my loving so satisfied You slept easily Against the blue sheets Your glow shines forth in waning moonlight The rich pink on your cheeks, The red puffiness in your lips A garden of color to delight my eyes I give thanks the summer evening is so warm You lie atop the bed Legs still akimbo I can only remember how those thighs gripped me The tips of your breasts silently saying goodnight As I lay myself next to you As if you sense it in your dreams Your arm is thrown over me Resting limp but cozy Looking at you still - totally relaxed - Murmuring in deep sleep I wish I could enter your dream - Wonder if I am there I slip closer - close my eyes - Breathe in your sweet scent ~You have to have a dream so you can get up in the morning. ~ Billy Wilder |

Wilfred, My vote goes with the exquisite. Perfectly penned sir knight. Kethry "It is the image in the mind that links us to lost treasures; but it is the loss that shapes the image, gathers the flowers weaves the garland."- |

JWesley- Thank You my friend - I try Marge- If what I share with you pleases - it is but a small repayment for the pleasures you've shared with me by your postings JMLee- I'm glad you liked 'after', I remember when I finished "Immediately After" I thought It was my best writing - But hindsight tells me I wasn't objective - Thanks ![]() |
