The Diary One more page to fill with wonder Slowly penned by diary’s host Secrets of today will flow In future years from journal’s ghost For as I sit and write my story Known and seen by only me Questions far outweigh the words I’ve written here so carefully The more I write, the more I ask Each entry raises one more doubt Each leaf that’s bound within this book Asks God what life is all about These leaves of rich and loving tales Will through the ages always last And someone in the future years Will delve into the family’s past They’ll read of life so far removed The customs of a different age But then they’ll find a haunting question At the bottom of each page This old and soiled diary Will beckon them to onward read Each story and each question To fullfill their vacant spirit’s need The words to them will seem archaic But soul stays as it was before And questions they had never asked Will change their life forever more Elizabeth Santos |

So true. Though times and customs change from age to age and place to place, the questions of the soul remain exactly the same. Excellent writing, Elizabeth! Denise [This message has been edited by dsnyder (edited 07-30-2000).] |

I heard somewhere that "looking into a person's journal is like an entry into their hearts". Yours must be touched with kindness. |

Hi Liz Your poem brings to mind a poem I wrote recently 'The Book'. I like your thoughts on this topic very much. 'Great Minds Think Alike' Now theres got to be a verse there somewhere don't you think? Regards Jon |

Lizzie~ I love diaries. I often go to antique shoppes and estate sales to search for those treasures so carefully penned by one who was and is no more ... but comes to life in the pages written. What gems they are. I have a few tucked away for my brood to share at another time. I have my mother's dairy in which she penned the youthful songs of a girl of fifteen ... when she met the man who would become my father. Talk about a nostalgic treasure ! ! Wow ! Lovely thoughts, my friend. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Lovely Liz ... I too, used to have a diary, but destroyed it so many years ago. I guess my poems have now become it's replacement! Wonderful writing Liz! Best wishes, /Kit |

Whoa, this is some good stuff. I can't help but think of it as kind of like The Diary of Anne Frank. It's thought provoking too. --Chibi |

Elizabeth, What a treasure that diary will be to future generations. Just think some day a far off decendant of yours will find it and read of your life and loves. A joy for them I am sure. Wonderful writing about a lovely topic. Lone Wolf Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |
