The Ties That Bind

They shared a common table
And were fed from the same bowl
And somewhere deep inside
They seem to share a common soul

Love runs deep among the brothers
Until they leave their home
Each one seeks new direction
With visions of his own

Some move and change and grow apart
In distance and in mind
Contented with a new-found life
And never look behind

But want or not, they still are bound
By fragile living threads
Spun in the days of childhood
While sleeping in their beds

No matter what divides them now
There is a thread that binds
And never can be broken
By the passages of time

A common kindred spirit
In the selfsame fabric spun
Tightly woven principles
That cannot be undone

They’re stronger than a eagle’s talon
Mightier than the sea
More durable than granite rock,
Survive eternity

The ties between two brothers
Are the strongest bonds in life
Don’t try to cut this cord
If you’re a discontented wife

A brother will lambaste his brother
With every scourging breath
Then turn around quite swiftly
And defend him to the death

Liz, Boy, this one sure hit the nail right on the head!  I had 3 older brothers, they all fought with each other (and me), but let anyone else say something and the 3 of them defended each other to the end.  Two are no longer with us, and the one that's left is kind of lost.  Beautiful piece, and so very true.  Bonnie

Liz,

Coming from a family where I have eight brothers, I can tell you that everything you had to say here is true. Wonderfully written, my friend.

You sure described this perfectly Liz. I'm amazed when I watch my husband and his brother ... one minute anger, another minute, love. It's an intricately woven bond, and you've portrayed it wonderfully!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Very true, and that's just the way it should be! I think the same could be said about sisters too, at least in my family, well except for the fighting, we haven't done that since high school!

Elizabeth,

So true!!  The same is for sisters!!  No matter where we go or what we do, we are forever bound to our siblings.  Wonderful message!

Think I'll call my bro and sis and see if I can start a squabble just so we can make up! Love the ones that hit home!

Sweet, sweet friend~
This is just a lovely reminder of the bonds
that are so strong ... as it should be.
My boys are so close and I cherish the bond
between them.

This definitely applies to sisters, too! LOL. I remember fighting incessantly with mine... but no one else had better mess with her! LOL. This is great!

This is so true, beautifully written, While growing up we were seperated but I know without a doubt we loved each other dearly. I have two brothers and two sisters, and no matter what the bond is always there.
